Re: What route makes the most sense for a beginning Light Rail line in KC?

With electric buses operating like trains in China, just a matter of time they hit US. No investment/maintenance in tracks/wires, they just track painted lines. Level boarding with streetcar/train-like seating. The wheels are covered and can't tell it's a bus. Much cheaper solution per mile. The str...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Will give it benefit of doubt there are more logistical things to consider but when we're returning from lunch in RM and it's a 20+ minute wait then seeing two cars bunched at US... gotta wonder if there's more efficient ways to keep all 3 cars moving more optimally. Not an issue often but a bit mor...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

So for 3 car runs, two bunched up would be like a 2 car run. At this moment early Sunday morning only 2 cars are running with near zero traffic. The map shows up to 20 min wait after a car leaves any stop, sometimes I've seen 25 min at lunch hour weekdays if 2 bunched up at US with light to avg traf...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Ah I was under impression that Google Maps and arrival signs were based on GPS reatlime info, not timetables. Timetable method seems like a last century model for high frequency lines in era of automating realtime info, especially given sophisticated GPS tracking like for autos. But it sounds like y...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

It's on a schedule and there's a module in the cab that tells operators how they're adhering to that schedule. Streetcars depart Union Station when scheduled, regardless of when one arrives or casual observation. OTP is in the 90s and what matters is the actual wait time in between departures at in...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

The 3 streetcar run doesn't seem to be as consistently efficient as it should be even during lower street traffic periods. I often see the 'layover' at Union Station not take off until the one 'behind' it' is approaching the station or at Xroads stop. Seems the car at US should leave about the time ...

That's too bad. Something needs to break up the MCW (Monotonous Cordish Wall) in progress.

Still going with Nichols Rd through Plaza. Has an appropriate if maybe even meaningful irony.

Re: 1800 Walnut

Are spots available to allow undeveloped lots losing spaces to use such garages?

One in Xroads and one near Paseo bridge if casino streetcar extension occurs would otherwise have its place in order to allow filling other lots. Near Paseo bridge would keep that many cars out of downtown.

Re: 1800 Walnut

Have brought up in past idea of City buying lot along streetcar in Xroads and building a mega garage (surrounded by retail) that serves entire district. This frees up developers to build other surface lots not having to factor much parking while those losing the lot can use the city garage. The purp...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

Thought I'd revive this. Outside a couple new bookstores opening and a CVS renovation, restaurants/bars seem to still dominate new openings downtown. There doesn't appear to be any momentum for a Target type store or any major retail at this point. Should pursuing broader range of retail become a hi...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC

Dear peeps/lurkers not convinced of streetcar's purpose or critical of design... One major aspect many (including transit 'analysts') seem to not discuss much is the 'free to ride' nature of the streetcar without the inconvenient fare process to board. It makes the streetcar more like a seamless int...

From the Biz Journal article...
Main Street Rail TDD Chairwoman Jan Marcason said it hoped to find out in January whether the project was selected for the federal funding.

The board also has a libertarian contingent too. Moderate independents too who try not to get caught up in such polarization and attempt to levelset the conversation yet isn't sensationalized enough to consider as reasonable. You know when you watch a cheezy Hollywood movie with someone (of any age...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Tried the poke bowl place over lunch and liked it. Tried spicy ahi tuna suggested bowl. The options/ingredients are better than other poke places I've tried, including Atlanta and Tampa recently. Tasty, zesty, fresh - great balance. A line was out door entire time but moved fairly fast. Under 10 min...

3,545 is the final count for @kcstreetcar ballots accepted before the 5pm June 12 deadline... 10% of registered voters in the TDD boundary ("turnout"). 4,770 ballots were mailed & 5,044 were requested. Certified results announced at noon June 20 at Union Station! So given leaders like...
