Re: Penn Valley QT

I've heard chatter about a "road diet" for Southwest Trafficway... the trafficway was a hot topic at the midtown area plan meetings. the throughput could easily remain the same without some of the characteristics that contribute to high (unsafe) vehicle speeds -- elimination of the median...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

"The Bite" opens today. http://www.kansascity.com/2014/02/27/4853393/city-markets-the-bite-opens-friday.html I don't understand the majority of the City Market's restaurant's hours. Why stay open until four on weekdays? That is a couple hours after the lunch rush and before any normal per...

For some reason when I read this sentence it is in the voice of the "City Wok" man from South Park.

Re: P&L is a top 5 KC destination

I couldn't disagree more with this. What you said is the exact opposite of reality. Where is the precedent for what you are claiming? In KC every single casino was built where there was nothing as they are on river's edge. They had to be built right up against a river because of the law. In KC the ...

Re: P&L is a top 5 KC destination

I'm not a fan of casinos, but this proves what I've been saying for almost 2 decades. Downtown needs a vegas-style casino hotel complex in the North loop, foot of Grand or SE downtown - perhaps on Grand south of Truman. There's plenty of huge parcels there Preferably MO would change it's law and al...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Oh I see, no one would want this filling one of the 150 surface lots between 7th and 20th St. No one would want this filling the entire block slab of concrete at 20th & Grand that's been empty for 30 years. I don't question that some people might like to visit a casino like that. I question how...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Is this because you are morally against casinos? I know several people who work with me in the heart of downtown who go to the casino frequently. I can tell you they would be all for it. Pretty sure it would be great for tourism too. I work at a hotel downtown, and we have lots of guests wanting to...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Casinos are chintzy development gimmicks and we don't need or want one in downtown KC. I rather like them being in impossible-to-develop-otherwise brownfields and I think that's the type of place they belong.

Tikka House is sort of an indian restaurant "sort of" is right. I don't understand this place. Some hearsay: I have been told the owners of Tikka House are Middle Eastern. But they are somehow related to the family that runs Habashi House--which, incidentally, has reasonably excellent Mid...

Re: Jimmy John's to open Drive-Thru restaurant at 9th & Broa

The building is completely gone this morning. It was there last night. They did not waste any time. I feel like I should correct myself. I got a closer look at the remains of the old building last night. They "merely" knocked the top half of all the walls off so that visually, it fell bel...

Re: New Streetscapes in KC (for better or worse)

The trees that were planted as part of the Troost stormwater remediation have about a 30% success rate. The native grasses are going gangbusters. No one like that flat boring brown prairie ku crap. The dirt seems to...? I like it. I think there is often beauty in some of the more subtle plantings' ...

Re: And here we go again... Midwest Hotel to be demolished

I've become cynical about any plans to build a new building that involve demolishing an old one. What's to prevent this sequence of events? It's happened many times before: - The bank demolishes the old building. - A little while later, the bank then pretends that their plans to build a new building...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

I didn't know something interesting was about to happen so I wasn't watching closely, but I do check the map several times a day. It's a compulsion. Anyway I *think* this neighborhood had 43 registrations left to meet its goal. I went away, checked the map an hour later, and suddenly it was green, h...

Re: Google picks KCK/KCMO for ultra fast fiber network

OK so, out of the blue, "Eastern 49-63" jumped all the way up to 130 registrations, thereby meeting its registration goal and becoming the first large neighborhood on the east side of Troost to qualify. That is, of course, BS. Any ideas where all these ghost registrations materialized from?
