Re: KC Streetcar: Linwood or 31st?
linwood is worth choosing IF you: - combine center-running streetcar with dedicated bike lanes at curb (with floating parallel parking), see seattle's first hill streetcar for comparison - reduce the number of stops (compared to downtown) so the less-dense population gets the faster average speeds,...

Re: Shovel your whole sidewalk; not just your doorstep.
Only positive about a big snowstorm is I don't have the usual suspects pushing grocery carts down my street or dragging a 6 foot tall bag of aluminum cans. If the city can't solve basic problems, they aren't going to worry about snow on sidewalks.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that all money made by the airport has to stay with the airport. The city can only use those funds for airport related expenses. I've also thought i heard that its a big money maker when you talk about airplane fees, fuel sales, parking...

It looks in the far away rendering a little like the Residence Inn Denver City Center. Do we know if the architects or builders are the same?

Re: Phase 2 Streetcar Funding
Would you rather build a train line or pick out a highway to widen? Are you suggesting that a streetcar line could somehow redeem a suburban morass of culs-de-sac and half-acre lots, or that mass transit could substitute for a freeway in that environment? It's funny, people in this city probably as...

Re: Phase 2 Streetcar Funding
I disagree. It opens up Burlington and NKC for development and, while that might not have as much potential as the Independence Ave stock, that along with connection to the Northland and KCI make it a better option.grovester wrote:As Dave has pointed out, the development potential of that bridge span is zero.

Re: Phase 2 Streetcar Funding
Cause big, bold moves to grow the city have worked? "Lets build a new airport 25 minutes north of the city, it will be surrounded by new development in a decade." "Lets build the sports complex far to the east to promote rxpansion." "Lets spend a ton of money on new school f...

Re: Phase 2 Streetcar Funding
Sorry, I just disagree. You don't spend money on a project that will lose money at a large amount when there is a better financial alternative and take away resources for other projects that will benefit the very people you are trying to help. My experience with development says it's very difficult ...

Re: Phase 2 Streetcar Funding
I think you have to think of the extensions in the context of what the ultimate system goal should be. I think the deciding factor should be, what will give the best return on investment?, what draws the most money/people back to the city, and what extends the lines toward the top destination? I und...

I think it also might be sign that the city is keeping people that used to bolt once they reached 30. There's more options for schools, it feels safer and now now we have more options for great whiskeys/bourbons. The city is looking up.
