They do have good gelato -- and it's made GREAT when served as an affogato/a shot of espresso poured over the top.

Holy crap... really?! My mistake... I'm apparently only used to hearing that type of sentiment in a hyper-sarcastic way & took your words as such.

Carry on.  :D

Re: Fatty McFatterson! Kansas Citians are FAT!

Who cares? It's the free market. People want to eat horrible things which they know they should not eat, become morbidly obese, and die young? No problem, we have companies to make and market those products. And if it wasn't for that Marxist Obama, insurance companies wouldn't even have to cover th...

Re: "Taking Back Our Country" at Sprint Center

I could be wrong, but wasn't a lot or all of the bank bailout money paid back? I don't know why that doesn't get reported on more. People seem to act like it was a welfare check when it was actually a subsidized loan. Yeah, last time I checked, about half had been paid back. Probably mostly from th...

Re: "Taking Back Our Country" at Sprint Center

I wasn't trying to disprove racism in the tea party movement.  But rather, that the majority of Tea Partiers are harmless, I'm sure.   My point no more disproved racism than your points have proved racism. Please show me ANY group of "thousands" of people that wouldn't have a few racists ...

Re: "Taking Back Our Country" at Sprint Center

Eh. I support the tea partiers about as much as I support the war protestors of the Bush (and now?) era & the folks who were burning Bush effigies. The original ideas - protesting war & taxes - seem pretty noble to me. The core groups in both cases were (are?) protesting things that are perf...

Re: "Taking Back Our Country" at Sprint Center

In a poll of whites who approve of the Tea Party, only 35 percent said they believe blacks are hard-working, only 45 percent believe blacks are intelligent, and just 41 percent believe that they’re trustworthy. But of course their hate for Obama is absolutely not in any way racially motivated. At a...

Giant green fireballs will solve the problem: http://www.press-citizen.com/article/20100415/NEWS01/100415003/1079#flashObj scroll down to video, about 40 seconds in. I spotted one of these while hanging out in Loose park, three evenings ago, during broad daylight. Bright green, losing chunks of its...

Re: Plaza riot?

actually this seems to be the case.  reportedly these gatherings have been happening on the plaza for a few weeks.  there is an increased security/police presence each weekend, yet the gatherings have become larger and more out of control. This might be the weekend to head down to a rooftop parking...

Re: KC named 33rd most bike-friendly city

Cyclists just need to stay to the far right when biking down a road.  Simple as that.  If you ride down the middle of the lane, then you're just asking for trouble.  There's enough room for a car and bike in the same lane if the cyclists doesn't take up more space than is necessary. Not as a rule, ...

Simplifying the tax code to increase economic growth through a consumption tax, not a regressive income tax. I do get what you're saying about corporations not paying taxes now, and tend to agree with the crux of the argument. If my company's tax liability was increased by 10% starting tomorrow, th...

Re: The 3rd Congressional District race

What do you do when your taxes are increased?  Do you eat that cost, or do you increase your prices for your services/goods?  Who is ultimately paying those increased taxes?  The consumer.  You are collecting them, and passing them on.  If you aren't inceasing your prices in the case of a tax incre...

Frank Rich's take on the uproar over the health care bill passing. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/28/opinion/28rich.html?hp Wow. Hyperbole & scare words abound... scaaaary. This is definitely an entertaining story to follow, and I understand the temptation do get hysterical. Hand-waving is fun....

I know what you mean about it being "work" to read.  Very dense, verbose prose.  I definitely noticed feeling smarter and more articulate when reading for an hour or two a day for the couple of months it took me to get through it and for months afterwards, as well.  What did you think of ...

Re: Books we are reading.

Definitely want to check out Infinite Jest and Nature's Metropolis...both sound compelling. I've loved almost everything I've read from David Foster Wallace, but Infinite Jest is tough reading. That being said... I'm just finishing Infinite Jest and dig it, although reading it feels a bit like work...
