Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.
I'm curious, is the New Yorker considered a quality affordable housing project today? Or do people consider this sub-standard affordable housing and part of the reason more affordable housing is needed? If its the latter, you can't have it both ways. Preserving these units (while upgrading their qu...

KC Tenants twitter handle declares victory after prevented the construction of 77 affordable housing units. I am curious how many victories they have declared for the actual creation of affordable housing units What's considered affordable again? Isn't it like 1k? KC Tenants can't even afford a pla...

Re: Thoughts on Memphis
Wow, how the hell did Memphis pull off getting a grand hyatt? They have what is currently one of the more static downtowns in the country. Although they do still have a decent tourism economy, so I'm sure they are due for a modern hotel like that. They also have a 500 room Loews planned. Incentive ...

Someone may know better, but the presenter this week mentioned that the surrounding streets are held up by the garage structure itself. A new retaining structure will have to be constructed under a demo or a rebuild.

KC TIF Watch fighting this battle again. Trying to push the land owner (church) to kill the deal.
KC TIF Watch claims the neighborhood is "on the verge of gentrification."

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
Developers will just bite the bullet and propose projects with higher rents and no tax abatements. This will anger people like KC Tenants & Co, but they would have no basis to oppose projects then. So, I say let them have their screwed-up fun now so that in the future when only really high-pric...

Re: Is KC Tenants destroying the development future of downtown KCMO?
Is anyone else concerned with the way they seem to think they’re securing victories, while actively stifling development in the DT area? yes. they will only be happy with free or near-free housing. Even the affordable developers I know can't make the 20% incentive rule work let alone the levels KC ...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
This is primarily an event space and parking for the convention district. A rose garden does not make sense. Mega fountain does not make sense. There is a linear water feature/fountain that hasn’t even been designed yet but is already being roasted. It is true the city sells this as event space as ...
Re: W hotel
This would be a great site for another hotel tower. I mean there is enough space for a hotel on one side and apartments on the other. A lot of issues to work out and some sort of incentives are required. No way it happens under the current council.

Re: 2022 KC Goals
Without Shields, there are no strong pro-development players on the council. Short running to replace her is pro-development but not quite on her level. I think the candidate running vs. Bunch is even farther on the anti-incentive spectrum. I had really hoped that Bunch would deliver a relaxing of z...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
So, we have to provide parking for the convention center. Who says it has to be in this location? Put it on the other side of Broadway as part of a new development. This seems so forced and I can almost guarantee this location "has to be!" where the garage is because old lady socialites w...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.
MAC’s request for the TIF set aside seemed a bit sketchy when the presented it to a midtown business group a couple months ago. If I remember correctly, they wanted to continue an existing TIF on the midtown marketplace project and take a 3rd of the money. I was sitting next to a couple midtown dev...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza
1. I believe this site was selected for mixed-income housing as it sits near many bus routes. I tend to think a hotel tower would make more sense but despite my wishes, we probably aren't going to get one of those for the next while. 2. This block is in the convention district. Why are people surpri...
