Re: Misc Crossroads News
I don't have to look very long to tell that rendering is crazy fake, it's dusk so the sun is very low, below the horizon, remember that the west side is higher in elevation. but somehow lighting is coming from two directions evenly. The other buildings tells me it's summer but somehow th building ac...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Today's line status trenching looks to be largely done at 3rd/Grand. the curve is a LOT wider than I expected. the switch is south of the (former) crosswalk point the track work is partially stalled in the CBD on visible work, but the Delware Bridge NB is entirely back open, guessing until line work...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
you can't say anything about the streetcar on other corridors. we CAN do dedicated lanes like Houston has where cars cross every other block and the train has signal priority or no left turns in front of it except select intersection like NoLA. that might actually sell the expansions as much as anyt...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I know I've said it before, but one of the failures of the streetcar was it wasn't going to change bus service. There was NO gain for people along Indep Ave except more taxes. The goal is to It's hard to change over it being a local line, but it should be a part of future lines. Train + more bus ser...

Re: Why is there so many NIMBYs in KC?
I really doubt KC is alone with that either.
In KC we just haven't written these kind of things into the building code yet.
Like the Plaza bowl and Kauffman view are just guidelines. versus DC which saw its building height max through a law back in 1910

So you don't like the design because they add flair.
So. you dislike this building because of what? Its lack of flair? It's 90% only glass on the exterior with some brick on low floors.

Image someone going from 63 to Main St MAX and suddenly being forced to change again,
There's no reason to require two transfers to replace a bus that doesn't use Main through the CBD

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
combining the 19th St stops makes sense. gives consistency to the spot and removes the NB stop that takes up way too much space right now I also see their point about not rerouting MAX over such a small part of the route. by the time UMKC is up and running they might decide to retire it on Main in f...

So does that mean it's like 92 feet from my door to my parking spot, or what? Because that seems pretty far. Walkscore.com says I can get that down to 6 feet if I live in Olathe. ... (yes, I know this is a joke post, but it makes a serious point) Clearly you don't live in Olathe. No one parks in th...

Re: New Convention Hotel
I agree that height doesn't matter, it's design. Look at the Kauffman Center. It's not all that tall but it works great as a design goes. Could it have a better street presence? Yes. But it really doesn't matter because the building itself is such a great addition to downtown. But this hotel should ...

Re: Dog problems in apartment elevators.
To me, this is something that buildings that allow dogs need to account for. The cleaning idea makes is absolutely the best solution. I don't know that it has to be cleaned daily as a matter of course, but a priority cleaning policy should be. Notice a problem and report it? They clean it the same d...

I've always liked the idea of having requirements to get incentives like: mandatory shared parking minimum height mixed use public need Like a developer promising a discount rate for a preschool and would do it for 15 years they should instantly get incentives to make that happen. If a preschool wit...
