I've been looking at a few houses lately that sit on stone foundations with basements. I know there are some Raggers who live in similar homes. How much trouble can I expect from a 100-year old stone foundation?
Thanks.

Re: KC Commuter Rail
Love Mike Sander's passion. But I'm surprised by his lack of knowledge on commuter rail vs light rail. I actually think he knows the difference, but he is taking the high road on the question, which is very good one. I support this plan overall. I think commuter rail in KC is a good investment beca...

Re: Open Fire Wood Burning Pizza - 3950 Broadway
Yeah, the place is outrageously huge, could be split up into 3 restaurants. Haven't tried since new owners but the original was pretty plain tasting no matter what you put on it. And lowly iceberg lettuce salad. For $7 combo was OK but not decent enough to go back. Will have to try with new owners,...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
As an aside, as someone who will vote for this and will likely never or very rarely use anything except the bike trails...I kind of read this plan as a "long game" strategy in the power/population game versus Johnson County, and I think it pays of big in the next 10-25 years. 1000x Agreed...

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
From Facebook: We heard today that you have explored use of this garage in the past but the city hasn't entertained requests made for a sensible joint use agreement. If it helped in any way, many of us would be happy to help petition the city for a joint use agreement. Ok, I am not usually a conspi...

Re: OFFICIAL - Hampton Inn (formerly Gumbel Building)
Is there any truth to the idea that the Gumbel cannot be redeveloped until the fate of that horrible garage next to it is decided? I would not think that it necessarily depends on that. There are plenty of underutilized parking options within a half block of the Gumbel, with which to negotiate a so...

Eh, lame. "Interior demolition work, no build back".

Re: OFFICIAL: Gumbel Condos
So, this is an extremely old thread but... I noticed today a truck outside the Gumbel loading up what appeared to be a collection of metal air ducts for a ventilation system. At the same time I noticed that the building for sale signs are gone from the windows. It would be too much to hope somethin...

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
This probably is the truth/reality of the situation. I do, however, feel there should be an immense amount of planning/thought/restrictions on how and where a garage is built and what they look like. Parking is infrastructure. The City should handle all planning of parking, imo, and be responsible ...

+1. I suppose you could say First Fridays, but even then I've never had trouble finding a spot--and the Kauffman garage ALWAYS has space.flyingember wrote:how is there a parking problem?
I have yet to not find an on street spot within a block of that location.

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
Why does this all remind me of the original Balcony Building proposal? I was thinking this as well. And I think the answer is that it's another project that does not fit within the context of the neighborhood and is insensitive to the character of the building sought to be replaced and those nearby...

Re: American Royal leaders propose tearing down Kemper
That's it! Kemper would make a great megachurch. Praise Jesus, for it is saved! I don't know if you are kidding or not, but that is one of the proposals, but no churches in the area are interested. The city of Houston sold their old NBA arena to Joel Osteen, and he turned it into a mega-church. Ple...
