Re: Misc Crossroads News

They make their employees pay to park. Something like $50 or $60 a month, it might be more now. Some of their employees are downtown residents that walk to work but a lot of other ones commute in from Olathe, Blue Valley, Liberty, etc. If I know Olathe people, they like close parking, and a lot of it.

Re: 1640- BNIM HQ

I was disappointed to read that article. I'm guessing this is a win for the KCMO SD parents? Nothing instead of something? Now the hold up on the convention hotel too. This stuff definitely gives pause to developers. Hope something other than a surface lot becomes of the building but who knows.

Re: 1640- BNIM HQ

I think anyone that pays property taxes (both residential and personal) in downtown has skin in the game when it comes to TIF, regardless of whether or not they have children in the public school system. My wife and I own a condo downtown and paid fairly decent property taxes in 2015 even with a 50%...

That was a nice renovation. I didn't realize how many historic elements were in that building.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

Should be a nice addition to Walnut and the Crossroads. Like that ground floor retail is going to be included. Really hope that the surface lots on the West side of Walnut between 15th and 17th get developed at some point in the future, it would make for a great couple of blocks.

Re: Misc Crossroads News

So this basically means it will stay surface lot parking for the time being or at least until the church decides to build low-density, low rise facilities to support the parish?

Was definitely wishing for a large mixed use development there. Or at least large residential construction.

I remember looking at an apartment rental in one of those a few years ago. It was pretty dumpy then. My guess is they want to build something denser but then again, who knows.

Re: Minimum Wage (Split from New Convention Hotel)

Tipped service staff don't fall under the same umbrella as everyone else. In KS tipped service staff get $2.13 an hour. In MO tipped service staff get 50% of the prevailing minimum wage which is more generous but still low at $3.825 per hour. The higher minimum wage would mostly impact the restauran...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

Went to Il Lazzarone with friends after the 1st session of Big 12 games ended yesterday. Place was busy, pizza was great, and the wine list was affordable with lots of of options. Ended up having two pizzas and two bottles of wine and the price for everything was very affordable. We will definitely ...
