Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)

JoCo just completely f---d itself in terms of transit. The southern areas are huge, 8-lane "streets" without sidewalks. It's sad to look at these monstrous areas that are proudly exurban and impossible for a pedestrian to navigate. You just don't get a good idea as to how f-ing big those ...

Re: Johnson County Transit (The JO)

The most annoying part of The Jo's routing is it doesn't take you anywhere useful.  I'd love to take the bus from Olathe to the Sprint campus as opposed to fighting my way across 119th and metcalf twice a day.  However, the closest I can get from Olathe is Rosanna Square, the the morning bus hits Ro...

Re: Downtown Mission/ The Gateway

The area is not blighted.  I agree with you as regards the area (Mission and NE JoCo) in general, but the mall itself was emptying out even before this was announced and was well on its way to being a large white elephant at a premier intersection.  If the bond financing kick starts the general red...

Re: Downtown Tanners closing?

Tanners did gangbuster business while they didn't have any real competition.  While i hate to see any place go under, I won't miss the crappy service.

Here's to something better that will appeal to something beyond the striped shirt crowd.

Re: Please stop building/maintaining 5-lane streets in the urban core.

What year did we carve SW Trfwy into what it is today?  It seems pretty obvious by the single family surroundings and the layout that it wasn't always an eight lane expressway.  I have always been curious about that.  I've been driving down it for 30 years and its always looked pretty much like it ...

Hey, its not Gates or Bryants (or even remotely close), but its a decent alternative to McTacoKing when you are in a hurry or on the cheap.

Re: Smokin Joes expansion?

That deck was jammed on First Friday.  I ate there last Thursday afternoon, and the expansion gave some needed added space, although the chairs around the bar area are uncomfortable as hell.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Here is the typical scenario:  There is a kid/family-oriented event at the SC.  A family, consisting of Mom, Dad, a 12 year old and an 8 year old, have tickets and want to make an evening of it.  This family could be from Brookside, Liberty, Olathe or anyplace that isn't immediately downtown-ish.  T...

And definitely much better than an empty hulk of a warehouse store.

I thought I heard Yes had canceled altogether - something about Jon Anderson being ill.  I haven't seen them live in almost 25 years (wow!  I've gotten real friggin old) - might have to do it again this year.

Re: High(er) Density Development in Suburbs

Wouldn't it make sense to make the second circle more dense before you start making the third circle more dense? I think ideally this would be the case.  It would be easier to tie these inner-ring burbs into the core's transit system - if for no other reason than proximity. However, look at the dif...

Makes you realize just how desolate the NW Loop is.

If Central is the "Avenue of the Arts" maybe Wyandotte can be "Parkway of the Parking Lot"

Re: New AMTRAK route between Kansas City and Oklahoma City

We are totally without alternatives to airlines besides personal auto. That's what I don't get.  I haven't been on a flight in some time (albeit I don't fly a lot) that wasn't packed to the gills.  Last week I round-tripped to Toronto via Detroit and there wasn't an open seat on any of the 4 flight...

Re: Leawood's Park Place development

Found it a little interesting that PP has a prominent AMC ticket kiosk inside the commons area. PP planners obviously realize the potential of creating a walkable, urbanized space. Maybe it'll encourage Town Center Plaza to look at creating a synergy between its shopping center and PP. Last time I ...

Re: Montreal in May

Niagra is a lot like Branson - you just have to embrace the trashy tourist cheese and have fun with it.  It has been awhile but I remember the night time light show on the falls being a big draw.  Just got back from a week with the high school choir trip to Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.  Still wait...

Re: Sprint Center and Power & Light District photos....

After seeing the video of the "Idol Watch" from Wednesday night and GRID's pics, I got to thinking about how fast this place has become the de facto gathering place for the city.  Anytime something big is going on, a crowd gathers in the Live! block.  Not bad for something that's only been...

Re: Over There Cafe

According the The Star, "Over There Cafe" is set to open inside of Liberty Memorial.  I don't know if it is just aimed at the tourists or if they are hoping for local business.  I'd have to think its a tourist thing.  I mean its not an exactly convenient pop-in-for-a-sandwich location. Ma...
