Re: Aladdin--boutique hotel by Holiday Inn

Excellent. Grand old building needs some loving and BAP needs some permanent residents.

Re: Downtown KCK

Brotherhood building declared unfit for habitation. This was the largest office building to go up in either Kansas Cities in the immediate postwar years and had an elite social and business membership club on the top floor(Terrace Club). It was largest office building in KCK until the Cerner buildin...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

People living at the Sulgrave on the Plaza moan about the glare of the lights on the Plaza Tennis center. How would the ballpark affect the residents of 2 Light?

South approach ramp almost gone. This end of RM going to look a lot different with new open space and Atlas. Anyone seen any details of the pedestrian walkway? Will it only be accessed at 5th St, or will there also be a stairs or ramp further down?

KCAI has no interest in moving, Nelson has no interest in expanding into Southmoreland, especially after Rockhill nixed expansion on grounds of Laura Nelson home.

Crew working on west side today putting up cheap looking siding. The propped up Katz exoskeleton looks very vulnerable to high winds. Hope it survives.

Re: Redevelopment of old Quartermaster Depot site at Hardesty and Indy Ave.

Is that a roof top pool or just an awning? This is going to be a big shot in the arm for the Northeast, Independence Ave, even Truman Rd.

Having lived in the View for a few years a while back, yes, this area does need retail. and dining. Right now just about anything is at least a 10-15 minute brisk walk away. Cannot be called a Village without it.

That was at one time a nice little street car node. There is some new housing being planned a block or 2 south of there.

Re: Sad...

Troost became the barrier much earlier than 1965, although Troost retained a lot of vitality up until 1965. Troost became the barrier, at least north of Brush Creek after WWII when the first black family moved south of the 27th st black/white divide and promptly got burnt out. The lot just south of ...

Re: Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

In the early seventies BAP was almost gone forever. Before Bartle Hall was built there was a proposal to build an exhibition hall over BAP. It would have extended over 13th and obliterated the north facade of Muni Auditorium.

Re: Sad...

Maybe having 71 as a demarcation is a positive thing for the neighborhoods between it and Troost. It does not seem as overwhelming a goal to renew this area as when it is perceived as contiguous with the rest of the huge expanse of east side disinvestment.

Re: Sad...

The renewal shifting east is not because of the highway, other than a lot of people like the freeway access that the nicer areas to the west do not have. The highway was built 30 years ago. Troost has been the division since WWII, and it is not a freeway. It is an organic thing caused because of loc...
