Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies

KS HB 2428 would phase out PEAK http://kslegislature.org/li/b2015_16/measures/hb2428/ this is one complex document with mixed results. one program is stops new recipients but keeps existing. one surtax it lowers the rate. one item it changes the end date from 2012 to 2016 so new people can join it.

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light

per twitter, it's going to be approx. 291 feet when completed.
H&R Block is 236 feet tall.

It's going to be 25% taller. That shows how hard it is to compare building height from the ground.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Apple likes historic old buildings and maintains the historical integrity. We want them in the first two floors of the P&L tower. Then the Plaza store can grow slightly in size, not needing to wait on a large space to come free. Buying out the space next to them becomes an option and simple expa...

The development agreement approved Monday calls for the city to pay the estimated $7 million to $8 million cost of extending Switzer Road through the development. This new road better be self supporting in the future...otherwise, whats the point? We're just tying ourselves to years of repaving, sno...

Re: Learning from Phase 2 OR Rising from the Ashes

Developers get incentives for greenfield projects About the only thing the train did there is make developers want to build downtown They can get incentives in any part of the city so turning them off entirely isn't an option quite yet. What the city needs to do is offer incentives for better projec...

The Plaza doesn't really compete with downtown, it more competes with College Blvd. Look at how many places leave downtown for the Plaza Think about places south of the Plaza in terms of jobs access to. Working on the Plaza is just as east as College Blvd for people in Waldo, Prairie Village, northe...

Re: Learning from Phase 2 OR Rising from the Ashes

I just thought of something on this subject. The failure of this is because it was about a train. The opposition knows how to be anti-train quite well so the focus needs to be different. Do it in two parts. 1. a guy in a wheelchair, an elderly individual who has trouble with steps and a variety of p...

Re: P&L Building

from seeing a large amount of the work on the Union Carbide building, you would never know a building is being renovated inside if there weren't construction barriers. a large amount of the work is things like you don't see outside and shouldn't. like the building main electrical equipment is a few ...

One thing I dislike is that many people think level boarding is for wheelchairs. Its not. Level boarding is about not doing something special for wheelchair access. It's the example of accessibility, doing something that provides equal access for everyone. No one feels undignified because the access...

According to One Light's twitter feed, the forms are currently being set for the top floor.. Getting very close to the final height of this building. Really? A few on here said it would clearly be higher than HR. I drove by last weekend, looked a little lower than HR. where did you drive by? becaus...

Why does everyone think Longfellow doesn't exist? Union Hill stops at Gillham, not Troost. Maybe because there is so little neighborhood "branding" in KC? Union Hill does a reasonable job of making itself known as a unique entity with decorative gates, signs, a garden tour, etc. my neighb...

maybe not in this case. being historic it probably cost more to have insurance than to repair the building. and if the owner can't afford one they couldn't afford the other.

Noticed that for the summer we get an additional KC to Seattle flight on Alaska Airlines. The time is great since it leaves KC at 7am and you arrive in Sea at 8:55 so it will give you a chance to connect to Hawaii, Alaska and other places on the west coast. Id love to see this year round because th...
