Re: 18th and Vine
This is a good opportunity to road diet Vine south of 19th Street. It's really wide from 19th to Lynn. The grades along this stretch are favorable to a bike route.

Just wanted to say, I was wrong about this building. It is excellent. Everytime I go through Main and see it, it just really sticks out and looks awesome on the skyline. With it being there, it gives that area just a big city feel because it feels like this building just completes the rest of the r...

Re: Do you have or plan to get Google Fiber?
We got an email today that as Fiber TV subscribers we are "eligible to upgrade" to a different streaming TV service. They're throwing in Chromecast replacements for each TV box plus a Google wifi router. Didn't see a timeline on when they'll officially pull the plug on Fiber TV, but we kne...

Maybe the third time will be the charm for an engaging street-level design.

Walked by today and noticed signs of work happening inside. Most of the Alamo cutouts in the Main-facing windows are gone.

Re: Capping the Loop
Considering that River Market / Loop / Crossroads is one of the only areas in the city with a true functioning grid (or at least the potential), I'm very reluctant to endorse removing any more segments of that grid.

Re: The Xroads First Friday Thread...
It's always a shock to me how vacant downtown can be. There are supposedly 30,000 people living there, right? Where are they hiding? That's the number for Greater Downtown, IIRC. So that includes neighborhoods like Westside, Beacon Hill, Union Hill, Longfellow, and others that aren't "downtown...

Re: Lawrence Urban Growth Boundary?
I've read that climate change is going to potentially reduce yields on agricultural land by 40 percent if we fail to keep temperature increases under 2 degrees celcius. Thus, we are going to need as much current farmland to remain farmland. Of course, if humans can stop eating so much meat, we won'...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)
I'm really impressed with how this turned out. I like the massing, the variation of colors, the integration of the Midwest Hotel, and the street-level presence. They really made a mess of 20th during construction, but the new landscaping is wonderful. It'll really liven up the corner once the space ...

I looked at it again this weekend. An easy retrofit would be to add walkouts to the street-level units. Many other developments do that and it's a small feature that makes a big difference in the urban feel.

Wehrenberg or bust. Not sure if you knew, but they're owned by Marcus Theaters now and people in St. Louis didn't really like that when Marcus (from Milwaukee) came in bought out our hometown theater company. I did! This was very upsetting in Springfield as well. The people loved the Wehrenberg bum...

Also I've recently become biased against water features after learning how much energy they consume. Personally, I'd like to see new water features that provide water quality benefits. Expose some of the buried streams, put in some landscaping, create a couple pools and put fountains in the pools f...

Yesterday evening I spotted some work on the south end of the lower roof (behind the streetcar platform). It looks like it could be scaffolding getting put up. Part of the sidewalk was roped off.

Why the hell is the Brooklyn Bridge (opened 1883) still used daily and the Buck O'Neill Bridge (opened 1956) is too expensive to repair? Do we just not maintain our bridges in Missouri? The Eads Bridge would like a word here. Ironically, it's maintained by the City of St. Louis. https://en.wikipedi...

Love the use of this space that is just an empty lot rn, however, really hate the amount of parking included, especially If the Northrail is gaining more traction right now. Agreed, though at least it is all on the NW corner which backs up to the businesses. And could be converted to another use in...
