Re: Swope Park Access
In previous discussions, I've made the point that Penn Valley Park particularly suffers by being shut off from the surrounding city, an isolation that deprives it of people to use it and care for it. I think at this point the best thing that could be done to secure Penn Valley Park's future would b...

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment
Btw, has anyone seen the new exterior of the Caddyshack?!? I saw a picture earlier today, and my god... it is absolutely grotesque! Ominous vibes surround this whole area. I'm not feeling good about it. There is simply too much wasted space here. If this gets built, then you can pretty much throw th...

Oh no. Wow...
I don't even really know what to say. I wish we could scrap this project.

Re: Swope Park Access
It's too bad Loose Park isn't downtown or in midtown (or a copycat of Loose Park). It's so much nicer than Penn Valley. Of course I'm not sure where it should be situated downtown. It's just sad that Loose Park is surrounded by houses. It should definitely have apartment buildings surrounding it. We...

Re: Union Hill Development
My tangent was in reply to moderne's, but you're right of course that how the garages are situated has nothing to do with density in this case. It seems obvious to me that they should just put the garages under the houses, below grade with a front driveway, just like many pre-war houses built into ...

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
Bank of America is actually reducing the number of ATMs in their network on purpose. Don't expect movement on that. Why on earth? And even if that's so, I would think this would be one location where an ATM is necessary. They've already closed 1000 in 5 years. They're also reducing drive up windows...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Something I'm a bit curious about: Was it not possible to work on one section of the streetcar line at a time until completion of that section, and then move on to the next section? Instead of putting up cones along the entire length of the line from day one and working on different parts of it at t...

Re: Union Hill Development
I live in this neighborhood so only my opinion counts(humor). I'm fine with single family homes with driveways. I don't want to live in a DT density. I think there is a perfect middle ground between high rise urbanity and Johnson County amorphism. This is to be found in the layout when KC had its f...

Re: Union Hill Development
Oh I agree that this isn't a major freakout or anything. It would just be really easy to have the garages in back off an alley, so I don't understand the reasoning. the original alley was legally vacated for both sides of De Groff. we're talking about needing to deal with the specific land ownershi...

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition
Btw... something that really annoys me is that there isn't an atm on the outside of this building. This is the major Bank of America in KC and it's downtown. It makes no sense. It's really annoying that I can only access the atm when the building is open. This is so, so true. Yes, I am going to try...

Re: On-going downtown development projects
Wow. Too bad the plan got derailed. But then again, if they got built in the 80s we would no doubt have a lot more mega blocks and buildings that completely ignored the street. If we could somehow continue the plan today it would be better.

How dare people put something so obscene up as signs! Of all the things to try and stop, why signs? A policy change is definitely in order.

Where exactly was winstead's at? Winstead's was in this space. http://tinyurl.com/katk6ls Ahh, interesting. That space would work much better as a restaurant than what is there now. Btw... something that really annoys me is that there isn't an atm on the outside of this building. This is the major ...

Re: Union Hill Development
What's with all the garages? So these new houses about to be constructed on Oak all have 2 car garages? And it appears the townhomes on McGee or whatever have garages too. There is definitely an alley behind the townhomes, so why not at least build the garage into the back of the house, with access ...

the mcdonald's inside CCS food court has been gone for several years. there is technically* still a taco bell inside town pavilion. * it's a taco bell / pizza hut combo, and i don't believe it's the full experience for either, but i have never stepped foot inside for fear of instant gastrointestina...
