Re: I sure hope KCMO does not approve this...
The TIF legislation was written by lawyers, for lawyers. The legal definition of blight has nothing to do with what most common folks consider blight. Furthermore, if a proposed TIF area is not actually blighted by the definition written in the ordinance, it may meet TIF criteria as a "conserva...

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District
Very weak rejoinder. A $20 million dollar increase in the tax base works out to an annual take of less than a million bucks for the city. That's less than a tenth of the P&L's annual deficit, and if you plug the city's borrowing costs into the present-value calculation it's clear that the retur...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
remember lovely mr. dermadoctor who showed up in court last week to oppose the special assessment on his commercial property? well, county records show his assessed value is 468,173... which makes his annual streetcar assessment $2,247.23 (0.48 for each $100 of assessed value). this would not be co...

And Union Station had to be almost entirely re-purposed (I'm starting to hate that word but it is descriptive) to get to some level of solvency. I'm not sure that kind of make-over is even possible for P&L given location, occupancy in the immediate area and sheer size. The way it was built, it ...

All this mumbo jumbo and bickering is depressing. Why don't they just put a casino in there and be done with it. We could call it Walt Bodine's. I think he has some injun blood in him. You betcha.

Man, what a great song. That guy has stupid talent. And deep, right up there with dust in the wind.
I wonder if that will boost KC tourism.
Sometimes I feel like I'm becoming my dad.

I hate to beat a dead cat (I'd rather skin one), but every single supporter thinks of this thing as a starter line. They believe its success will spawn more lines and that, eventually, it will become a big part of lots of people's lives. One way to look at those supporters is as pioneers. And even m...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
I know some very poor people who rely completely on the bus for transportation and it makes life even more difficult for them than it already is. If they could afford a car, they would have one. It's not like there are so many employment opportunities that they can chose one within walking distance....
