Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
Need to be able to show voters that their vote today lays the foundation for a greater system tomorrow. This map from the 2009 election did just that. https://i1.wp.com/www.thetransportpolitic.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/regionalmap.jpg?ssl=1 metcalf absolutely has space for this https://media.bi...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
Seems like some of you guys are really out of touch with current lifestyle and development trends. People don't live in Johnson County because they want to be slaves to automobiles. People live in Johnson County because it's where their jobs/friends/family are. Most stuff that's getting built nowad...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I'm okay with what the Plaza is as long as we don't have grocers. As long as it's retail, I think it's all good and it still maintains it's majestic appeal. Why don't we just build only apartment there on that spot and just not worry about any new stores? I can't stress this enough, we just *cannot...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
I actually agree that running rail to JoCo is a waste of time and probably would only hurt KCMO. I do not understand why people would want to see OP develop a dense walkable downtown. That would only directly compete with urban KCMO, especially areas like the Plaza. I would not stop them from doing...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
No point in wasting time and money with a completely made up plan that will never happen.
MO does have some $600 or 700 million for transit that we can maybe tap into + future grants. So we can think bigger but also need to realize we need suburban support and transit for multiple reasons.

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
OP is already rebuilding Metcafe as walkable. North Oak corridor could be rebuilt too. Run a train to both and you will see results. I appreciate the dream you seem to have, but Metcalf will NEVER have light rail. It is against the very nature of every person that lives out there. It would take the...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
We need transit to jobs in the suburbs. a one to OP and metcalf would really open up urban living for a lot of people To work where?! Even if there are 10,000 good jobs in that area, so few would use it from DT to outweigh the astronomical price to build it that far...and it's more likely to push m...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
It’s my understanding that this was all a process where each step was bigger than the other. The Main St extension was supposed to be used as a tool to get people to come around on larger LRT. Going with small projects or nothing bigger is essentially going backwards from the intended goal of wetti...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
This is just stupid. After the Main St extension and perhaps E-W funding...what more in the urban core isn't gonna be in walking distance from a streetcar?? Secondly, why would you go for a probable failure of a regional vote...when we could pass a successful vote in Jackson County to get this star...

No we haven't 1. More streetcar in the urban core when possible 2. Regional funding and planning for anything of a larger scope This is just stupid. Burlington would support that higher speed, LRT esque service that many are asking for in the other thread.

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
Not landing an international flight on day 1 does not reflect a lack of competence from the aviation department. So, you’re saying with us being the largest US city without a European nonstop, after building a brand new airport, we still can’t compete with Indianapolis and St. Louis and Cincinnati?...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
Icelandair isn’t going to cut it for me. We had them with an old outdated airport. We need to see some return on an investment for a new airport. The minimum I’d expect is a direct flight to a major European city. If St. Louis gets an international with no real expenditure vs Kansas City building a...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
All I'm saying is KC really needs to set bar a bit higher for long term transit goals. The streetcar is fine, but it's hardly a comprehensive transit system. It's disappointing to think that in 2030 or even 2040, KC might have another few miles of trams. And the idea that KC is not dense enough to ...
