Traffic Circle for Westport Road

Many years ago there was a traffic circle at Holmes and Gregory. It was taken out and replaced with traffic signals to make the intersection work smoother. With equal traffic counts from all directions, and higher traffic counts, traffic lights were the answer. Meyer Circle works because a huge majo...

What does the new OP arena mean for the DownTown Arena?

What will the OP arena do to the new downtown arena? Will it hurt it? My answer would be it might sting but will not hurt it. It is possible that some of the smaller events that MIGHT be in the Sprint Center will go to OP but in reality the arenas serve different markets and events. Will it hurt Mun...

I'm simply AMAZED at the Sprint discussions here

It makes some sense to have company HG in Virginia. It is close to Washington DC. However, in the long run this does not bode well for the KC area. It loses another Fortune 500 company. Yes, there will be a big presense here but the decision makers will be some place else. And what was said about th...

Kansas Country not Kansas City - The Density Scenario

One of the tough things about these threads is getting back to the original point. Speaking as a person who grew up in south Kansas City, I've noticed the obvious stagnation if not pure decline here. This area peaked out in the mid-70's. Nothing has changed yet there are many acres of undeveloped l...

The sad, sad legacy of Lamar Hunt

Not to defend Hunt, but he could be in a situation of "asset rich, cash poor". The paper stated he built soccer stadiums in Columbus and Dallas. Did he build them or did the local government? If he did build the stadiums he might be in a cash poor situation.

If the PAC wants the garage directly north then let them contribute the $10 million. What is another $10 million on top of the $300 million plus.

The $10 million extra could make the garage unfeasible for the city to issue bonds for construction. Remember, the garage has to pay for itself.

Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

The garage holds less than 1,000 cars. If they are going to lower the south end to street level that will eliminate quite a few spaces that are needed. Maybe what they need to do it wipe out the whole facility and construct a modern garage with more spaces in its place with a park-like setting at st...

Anyone been to Ward Parkway Center recently?

Was at the Center last night. Ate at Baja Fresh. There was some traffic in the mall portion and cars in the lot. Not dead but far from robust. The theaters had very little traffic. Target doing well it appears.

Yeah but if if venues do not want to there it does not matter. Example KC Knights owner has said he would like to move to a new smaller arena preferably th OP one. Can't get much smaller than what they are in now. They are playing in Hale Arena which will seat 5,000 to 6,000. Not great seating but ...

Believe the original WDAF, channel 4, was the first TV station on the air in KC back in the 50's. Maybe the rules were different back then. The original owner of TV WDAF was probably the same owner of the radio station WDAF that was 610 AM. Much like the original WHB radio station when it was 710 AM.

1.) Last season the Kansas City Comets averaged nearly 5,500 fans per game. I have seen the actual turnstile reports for Comets games in the past. An ANNOUNCED crowd of 5,000 was actually around 2,000. 4,000 announced was 1,500 and so on. Unless things changed last year their 5,500 people were at m...

i dont really care about my grammer or any of that crap. Get off of that dude With that type of attitude you are ripe for failure in the business world. If you want to be a professional you have to talk, act, and behave as a professional when it is required. And if you are asking for help then don'...

For those that might remember the old River Quay in the 70's what made that area really nice, especially for live entertainment, was multi-level buildings. You could go up some outdoor stairs to one bar. The steps would be located in a courtyard area. From the front of the building you could enter a...

Since my serious drinking days were finished over 20 years ago I have no experience with the current bar scene. Remember working the New Car Show at Bartle Hall a few years back. Some people were complaining about having to park two blocks away. Now remember Bartle Hall is 4 blocks long and if they see the whole show they would probably walk at least 8 blocks.

infrastructure vs stadium/arena?

In conversing with one of my friends today he reminded me that KCMO has to be concerned with its debt limits, adding more debt without retiring other debt could lower the city's bond rating. Right now the city is close to that point. So for the city to go alone on any big project and incur debt from...

Yes, but going from $0 to whatever will be a bite. Do the owners have any idea of what the taxes would be if they had to be paid?
