The problem with using tech in art is that you limit its life, both culturally and technologically.
That whole area could use a rethink.

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)
I have to think that menu is not going to resemble diner food much. Maybe like an homage to diner dishes? Still a bit of weird look imo. The renderings are accurate. I just can’t imagine sitting down at a place that looks like winsteads and ordering expensive drinks. Obviously I’ll give it a few tr...

Re: OFFICIAL - City Club Apartments (former Midwest Hotel)
I hope that's the case. The build out of both is quite advanced. These places are opening absent a Covid zombie variant. I suspect the outdoor spaces will do well in spring for a grand opening. I still find the diner concept a little odd, but like 50s Americana nostalgia isn’t my vibe. But I’ll sit...

Re: Old KCPS HQ - 12th & McGee
there has been movement behind the scenes. Various office tenants have taken a look at the site. Without a tenant, none of these office projects will happen This is said about a dozen or two sites. And nothing happens. maybe we should instead ask, why does every tenant pass on downtown and what can...

Has anyone confirmed that they're struggling? It wasn't that long ago that their landlord threatened to boot them and they agreed to renovations and a new lease.

I mean I like the thought and concept of the idea I just don't have a lot of confidence in "rethinking the industry" if they need me to invest to make it happen. that said I'll throw some money behind it. I’m fairly sure they’ve secured traditional bank loans to build out and open. I thin...

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
Public works still hasn't fixed the insane situation where a light will stop the streetcar right before a stop. Going north to the crossroads stop is the worst offender.
Two forced stops literally feet apart.

Re: Phase Three Streetcar Expansion
The most important thing is stopping with mixed traffic streetcars. It's somewhat defensible in the urban core, but outside we really need to insist on dedicated row.

I mean fine, but a data center employs like 100 people, and they’re secluded from the rest of the company.
Go after them, but it’s a different conversation really.

Re: Bannister Mall/Cerner
Data centers are highly secure, walled off islands. I don’t suspect that will factor much into their cerner plans. I’m not very familiar with Oracle’s current health initiatives. If there aren’t many redundancies, if any, that gives kc more hope. They’ve already slimmed their work force a bit. It’s ...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
Rethink the tailgate. Provide grills and benches in a designated area. People bring their coolers. Sporting KC approached this with their indoor grilling area. I was joking. I'm actually quite surprised such a parking lot exist in San Diego. That lot is huge and the area around Petc has been built ...

How many people fly connecting southwest and then legacy international? That seems…odd.
Again why not just go through a bigger hub?

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I’m not a kc tax expert. I don’t think there’s much room in the hotel or rental car tax area. That’s how we we paid for the sprint center. The last renovation sales tax raised like $500 million over 25 years split between the chiefs and royals I believe. They can sell off naming rights, catering rig...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
%privately financed is increasing and seeing cities use tourism taxes to fund stadiums for their share of the project. can we get creative like they did with the airport tax to get this done? The airport is effectively backed by user fees. The royals are certainly free to sell equity or issue bonds...

Re: OFFICIAL - Buck O'Neil Bridge
It’s a weird project because it doesn’t connect anything. KC typically isn’t good at programming and maintaining these things either. It’s something that sounds cool in theory but I’d be incredibly hesitant to spend money on. Can we take it down and use a span at one end of the loop cap park? Inter...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
Thanks for the info, I do now see that news is reporting on this. I don't travel internationally much anymore but this route could be good for KCMO as it's only a quick jump to STL and then a train ride or short flight to much of Europe from Frankfurt. Personally, I try to keep my connections limit...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
^^More reason for a major overhaul. Given it wouldn't' take much to make Plaza a highly functional 'real' urban neighborhood (and KC has very few of those), that should probably be its new long term strategy. It can still have plenty of shopping that's a regional draw (50-75 stores instead of about...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Not unless you get into some serious historical revisionism. The plaza got it’s start as a suburban, racist neighborhood. A lot of the later changes and developments were driven as reactions to the suburbs, not to integrating with the urban core. The plaza hasn’t done itself proud with discriminato...

Re: KCI Flight Schedule Adjustments
Good for STL I guess. I wonder if there is a heavy subsidy. Is this new or returning service? $5.5 million for 3x weekly. Subsidy per flight is well above peers pre-covid. Thanks for the info, I do now see that news is reporting on this. I don't travel internationally much anymore but this route co...
