Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

I have long expected that someone would turn Woodswether Road into an entertainment district, with the kinds of amenities mgh7676 mentions. The views of the river would make for excellent rooftop terraces and it's removed from residential, so make all the noise you want. I realize the water treatmen...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

still thought the riverfront would try to get at least 6-7 story buildings in there. They have a finite amount of space to develop and create a dense enough neighborhood to warrant the extension of the streetcar. Go review the plan from their website. It's mostly low buildings in their concept plan...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project

Not a fan of an entire affordable housing building next to the nice market rate building. I mean I get affordable housing can't have every Bell and whistle amenity but all affordable housing tends to turn into a mess. This is a gross overstatement KCPowercat. One-fourth of the buildings in the Rive...

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Even if MAC doesn't expand beyond Armour, their success may be what's influencing owners of other apt buildings nearby to upgrade (as well as rising rents downtown). Have noticed some below avg buildings along Warwick upgraded with new wooden balconies, also upgrades behind Walgreens between Main/B...

Re: Is Kansas City becoming an inverted city.

A 2000 survey indicated that 60+% of downtown residents worked outside of the downtown district, so this is not a new phenomenon.
What may be new, is the large number of people who live and work remotely, or independently, out of their homes.

Re: Three Light

Sometimes I think if KC just bought a regular, small ad in the Wall Street Journal in the real estate section advertising what commercial rents are per sq. foot in downtown Kansas City; avg. apt. rents; avg. home prices, etc., that might be enough. It would have to run constantly. A constant remind...

Let the kids roam free and they might get hurt, but every time I lock mine up Social Services makes me let em go again.

I agree shinatoo.
This is one of the few spots where residential does not make sense.
Plenty of positive civic uses to consider.

Good stuff! Street food, but not a dive setting. Looks to be an instant hit. https://www.tribekc.com/ https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DZjRj8MVwAALB5L.jpg Went Friday night and ordered the beef skewer. Dave's posted picture sent me anticipating. What I got was nibbles of 1/3 the size and cooked dead. Ch...

Heavy handed actions?
Try red-lining and race terror for heavy handedness.

Historically and until only recently North Kansas City was a white enclave.
It was not abandoned and relegated to poor people who could afford nowhere else.
Your comparison has no relativity.

Re: What other cities are doing about affordable housing

Why should the time of purchase mean citizens get a special deal on their taxes to keep them below the market yet be able to benefit from selling their home at market rates? A need-based system is different and isn't just a blanket freeze. "..judiciously freeze taxes on fixed or limited income...

Re: What other cities are doing about affordable housing

Fixed property tax rates will create bigger problems. Road, trash, etc costs don’t stay down because the city fixes m taxes. It discouraged new people entering into a neighborhood because the city has to raise rates on new owners over existing existing which will hurt sales. NO. Taxing jurisdiction...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Burberry closing - last day is March 24. These are the kind of stores that the plaza needs so this is disheartening. Agreed. Plus recent articles point to the new CEO wanting to move away from areas that are not wealthy. Apparently, he visited all the stores in the US and I'm guessing the Kansas Ci...
