Winstead's gone. The Mango Room.  Not good for downtown having these off P&L restaurants closing.  Winstead's always had a bad location in my estimation.  I always thought they would do better in a different location downtown.  One place that comes to mind is the new building on the NW corner of...

I see a tattoo parlor has opened in that vacant storefront that used to be an antique store across the street from River Market Antiques and to the west of the Kansas City Flag store.

Most of the old Italian community is concentrated in Columbus Park and Pendleton Heights, but I acknowledge that over time it's become scattered.  Columbus Park used to be referred to as Little Italy.

At Quality Hill Square, the majority of the apartments are now empty and gutted.  They don't appear to be selling.

I drove by the Mango Room Wednesday evening around 7 pm and it appeared to be closed.

I must admit that I was surprised how few local Italian restaurants there were in Kansas City since it has a fairly sizeable Italian population.

Maybe they need singing waiters.  Just a thought.
