Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Kansas University architecture students will unveil their plans for reviving Kansas City's urban core during a presentation Thursday night at Trinity Cathedral. Pictured is one of several drawings by the students. This one depicts how a light-rail transit system might transform downtown boulevards ...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again
And if Sprint were based in MSP, Minneapolis doesn't have direct flights to Tokyo, Denver either. Denver doesn't, but Minneapolis has direct flights to Narita with Delta. It was actually probably the one few times going through customs on the American side was a pleasant experience. Since my wife a...

I may very well be wrong, but I think that page (and the various links) is the Downtown 2012-2013 report.

Re: How do you deal with sad or tragic news?
At first I usually get pissed off and I get a sick feeling in my stomach, but I am rarely shocked anymore. I had someone very close to me who had schizophrenia. There was one point in his life where I felt he was very close to going and killing a few people because of the paranoid delusions he was h...

Re: Western States want Missouri River Water Diverted
I have never understood this. Climate scientists tell us that water resources are going to become scarces in the future, so why should populations be allowed to grow in regions that do not have the water resources to sustain themselves. Albuquerque is an example of a city that is doing this right, i...

Another 7-story office/apartment building across the street (the northeast corner of 9th and New Hampshire) is supposed to start construction in March. http://worldonline.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/img/photos/2012/10/19/9th_N.H._apartment_rendering_t640.png?a6ea3ebd4438a44b86d2e9c39ecf7613005fe0...

Re: KC urban core population density.
Culture seems to play a big part, in my opinion. If you look at a country like Japan, where you can take out the racial component, it is often times the poorest, most agrarian regions whose students perform the best on their national exams. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ICPsV1ReAIU I don't quite s...

Re: KC urban core population density.
Why do you think KC hasn't seen the large decline in violent crime that has occurred in most major American cities over the last 25 years? Are the police just that bad, or what? It's something I've never really understood.harbinger911 wrote:Crime is the only issue.

Re: KC urban core population density.
I guess it's a 'chicken or egg' kind of question. Personally, I believe that the state of public education in KCMO is one of the primary reasons for depopulation south of the river. From my own experience, I noticed in Chicago that the neighborhoods that the so-called young professionals were flocki...

Re: Urbanism, architecture, etc.
I think the only way that high rises would work in DC -- that is, having high rises while retaining the city's character -- is if it was built up in a similar way to city-center London. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8e/The_City_Of_London.jpg/800px-The_City_Of_London.jpg I don't th...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
The British have gone down the path of cutting spending in the midst of trying to climb out of a recession. Cameron slashed spending with the aim of balancing the budget by 2014, which in turn sent the UK back into recession a full two quarters before the present EU-wide second dip. With the economy...

Re: Kansas, Missouri battle over companies
There was an article at the KC Business Journal that stated Missouri lawmakers were considering following a similar taxation policy to that found in Kansas. In a race to the bottom, it seems that everyone (at least everyone nearby) is a loser.
