Re: BBQ WARS!
Yeah, Q39 lacks enough smokey flavor (they use an indoor pit) but the quality of meat is well above avg. Burnt ends, brisket and ribs above avg, pulled pork pretty generic. Still need to try Char Bar (been mostly away from KC all winter) but Q39 is good enough to make the KC BBQ rounds for visitors...

Re: Martini Corner near 31st/Gilham
And what is it with buildings being damaged by vehicles lately? We've had this one, the one on Independence Avenue and Benton (same day), and the building on 18th and Oak in the Crossroads. Agreed, this is getting ridiculous. Could become a KC urban nerd meme. Obviously it's because they couldn't f...

Re: 50s/Main development
I didn't realize until reading that article that ownership changed once they moved into the new building, and that a 27 year old kid took over. It's no wonder the quality suffered so much. It was so much more than the horrible new building. I went one time, and it was about the most forgettable meal...

Re: New Downtown YMCA
I think the building looks pretty nice.... as a base. This would be a pretty swank YMCA, exactly what you want in the middle of a burgeoning mid-size metropolis' downtown. God dammit though!!! Ever since I set eyes on this my mind has been blown to pieces trying to understand why it is going forward...

What the hell!?! Is this some kind of conspiracy or something? Some hater of great urban buildings for sale is setting up kamikaze vehicle attacks. Which building is next??

Jeez, when is all this misfortune going to stop for this corner. One of the best urban corners in the city is getting flattened by random accidents.

Scott Richardson@LindenStreet_SR·Dec 18 @kckansascity Kevin, we're doing a groundbreaking ceremony for 1914 Main St on Jan 12 at 11:00. Would love it if you can attend. Excellent! It's about damn time. I'm super excited about this project. All this new building going on in Kansas City is a beautif...

Re: KC in TV and Movies
Wow... That is one of the most beautiful videos I have seen. That makes Kansas City look absolutely amazing and as you said Fang, this only showed a small portion of beautiful Kansas City. So many other great ideas for shots, though no doubt the amount of time and effort that went into that is simpl...

Re: City Ice building demolition
Interesting that these people have little to say about their building being torn down. Even if these people are only "localvores" or whatever they call themselves and not activists in any other way toward their city, I would have expected them to develop some sort of attachment to their ho...

Re: Butler Brothers Lofts
Booo!
There is no reason this building should not have retail on the ground floor. Broadway is dying for retail too, and this building is perfect for it. As Ember pointed out, this building is beautifully intended to have not one but two retail establishments.
Disappointed.

Re: P&L Building
It makes it seem as if it isn't one big project. Yeah, I think this is my biggest issue with it. I'd like this to be THE premier project downtown; everyone (locally) knows the building and if interested in downtown living has probably imagined how cool it might be to live in that classic deco tower...

Re: Make Grand Grand
Yea I also feel that sidewalk width is one of the biggest factors listed in making Grand, Grand. Of course, the sidewalk width really isn't too bad right now. As mentioned earlier it is one of the better streets in this regard, though it could still definitely be better. Main Street through Power an...

I've noticed work being done to this retail space lately. Getting ready for Yardhouse? I imagine so. There will be a lot of taps in a 2 block radius. Hooray beer!

Re: P&L Building
http://metrowiremedia.com/bringing-mult ... ight-plan/ Interesting article. The shared TIF use for the garage is brilliant. I also love the packaging of P&L's north units, that wrap around the garage structure and include balconies and pool. Great scale. However, I am not a huge fan of the actu...

Re: Misc Crossroads News
Yes I'm wondering why they ripped off the entire facade. It was a good lookin one, fit in nicely to the area. Helzberg! (Actually I don't know.) It's a Helixberg project. It's a shame. The building was pretty average, but ripping off the facade and (presumably) going modern sets it up for the "...

Re: GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man every team that wins has luck on their side. We are no different than every other team winning. You don't think the Orioles were a little lucky when they came back on Detroit's bullpen each time? Lucky for them they got to face the worst bullpen in the majors. The Nationals today got lucky when ...

But... but... but... it doesn't count because it took Dayton Moore 8 years to do this. Haha I can't wait to see what crazy things people say when we win the world series. "Yea I'm happy and all, but it really shouldn't have taken 8 years. We should have had 4 or 5 championships by now. And thi...
