Re: I can't wait for the new smoking ban in Kansas City!
The rest of the metro area hasn't given any consideration to a smoking ban whatsoever. 85% of the metro excluding KCMO is about 1.2 million people. According to the census data of the 9 jurisdictions which will count toward the 85% threshold on January 2, 2008, the population is 490,000. So, cur...

Re: Let's Do BRT Right
People often worry about an angry bus driver asking them for exact change. A visible per-stop ticket purchasing solution would be a big help to the current line. Also, the biggest problem of all is the perception of riding the "bus." Many people have it ingrained in their heads (from el...

To each his own, though Sky Blue Sky and ensuing VW ads were a disappointment for Wilco (in my opinion). At least they dictate their own image for the most part.

Re: Incubus @ City Market
Some good music has begun to seep back into the mainstream as well (the mold in the cheesemill, if you will). Bands and artists like Peter, Bjorn, and John; The Go! Team; Wilco; Feist; Of Montreal; Andrew Bird; and many more have had tracks featured on recent commercials. As one of my friends ment...

Re: Downtown KC vs. Downtown Indianapolis
I was in Indy a month ago for a company conference, and we stayed right in the city center. It was cool to see monument circle and how it looks back at the state capitol. They have also trenched a canal system for paddle boats near the capitol in a very Disneyfied way (which will get old/nasty in ...

Re: Incubus @ City Market
Don't pull Modest Mouse in with OAR, the Killers, and Incubus. Modest Mouse has had a strong Indie following for 10+ years. Sure they signed a big contract and had a few songs on the OC, but that is the way a lot of Indie bands "break through" these days. Modest Mouse is NOT "moder...

Suspended monorail lines protect themselves well from the elements. I'm sure places like South Korea and Germany have thought the whole weather thing through. The Schwebebahn Wuppertal has operated in Germany for over 100 years according to the wiki.

For who? Carson Daly and people in seersucker shorts?Nickleback, Chris Daughtry and Puddle of Mudd are coming to Kemper in Sept. That would've made a great Sprint Center Show.

Yea, I was really hoping for a marquee matchup for KU in the SC this year. That's the worst team they've played in KC since I can remember. How underwhelming. What about last year? Is Toledo that much better than Ohio? Both teams were 19-13 in the MAC last year. The KC game is basically an exhib...

I have many questions and few answers... Can someone lure a private company to make a large investment/proposal on this project? Many monorails are run by private firms who make money from the operation of these lines. Rather than have a gimpy contest for neat ideas, why can't we have some serious...

Buy low, sell high? I think these guys will look like geniuses in ten years when the Wizards value has more than doubled (like it or not, Beckham alone has increased the value of every franchise). What's wrong with having ownership in your neighborhood/community? The Loch Loyd thing could be more...

Don't know if these have been posted yet, but these are some pretty great articles and pictures of the expansion. Great exposure for the museum continues on a national level. Just because some establishments allows nude dancing and a some potential consumers are offended by nude dancing, it's no reason to force the entire market place not to allow nude dancing. The government regulates this in just the way many are talking about for smoking (specially licensed clubs/bar...

Not sure what the league averages are, but you can go to any team site from "NBA.com" and see what a team charges. It will set any NBA dreamer straight. Stone...cold...straight. Interesting study done here for the NBA (2004-2005)... http://www.teammarketing.com/fci.cfm?page=fci_nba_04-05...

Re: Ugliest College Campus in America?
I thought it was a real shame when the director of 2002's "About Schmidt" (good film by the way if you haven't checked it out) decided to use the University of Nebraska's Lincoln campus as a representation of the University of Kansas in Lawrence. While this wasn't a major portion of the f...
