Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
I think this, or something like this, would be just the type of regional attraction to get people down there. As much as I like bike trails landscaped with native plantings, that is not getting joaney and jim from Olathe to come to the river. Looks cool, but an attraction like this would only get ...

Re: H&M coming to Plaza
Can't wait - let's hope it's better than the StL stores. I haven't been to an H&M city where they've had only one location and I'm glad they chose the Plaza over a likely 2nd location in Oak Park and over The Legends when they were looking several years ago. Donatella Versace (sp?) is designing...

That found sounds hearty. Am hoping for a little lighter fare when sitting on an awesome patio but whatever, it's way too early to bitch I love what they did to the BRGR spot in PV and glad Highwoods ended up going with a local connection for the Baja spot.

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
Have you been to Portland and ridden that thing? It's pretty painfully slow. I don't know that it would be fair to say it's faster to walk, but it's probably faster to jog. But for the lazy asses it's more like a teleporter taking them someplace they wouldn't normally go without a car or valet park...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
eliminating a fare entirely reduces capital costs (no ticket vending machines), increases ridership, levels the playing field with parking, and eliminates the need to patrol for fare evaders. it does increase the operating cost, however. can you imagine the game-changer "free" would be? S...

(Another) New hookah bar - 39th St
Signage on the store front to the east of the laundromat (across 39th St from Chipotle) says Sahara hookah bar coming soon.

Re: Historic Union Hill apartment buildings being torn down
About a year ago I saw plans/photos for renovating the building just east of Gates into condos - they looked incredible. Yesterday I saw a man carrying Home Depot bags walk into one and now I wonder if some renovation has started? I had always thought the housing stock between Linwood and 31st woul...

Re: Convention hotel proposal for P&L building (and surrounding block)
Anybody have any other ideas? When does the arena tax on rental cars (is that taxed on hotel rooms too?) end? I can see an extension to support the building of a new convention center hotel, which means proponents could claim no new taxes to build it. But I'd think it would need to be tied into a n...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I like H&M, but what I don't get is why in this age of internet shopping, you can't order from their website? You can look, you just can't purchase :x I was at one of their stores in SF last week and one of the salespeople told me that online ordering in the US would be coming in the next cou...

Re: Get Motivated Seminar at Sprint Center
I'm still recovering from when I went last year, which was a colossal waste of time IMO. 90% of what the speakers conveyed was common sense...I think maybe the organizers confuse motivation with inspiration. Like that they have Conservatives there too! I could've done without Conservative slant and...

Re: 39th Street Condos
I'll change my opinion - the design doesn't suck, but I see it looking more like a Courtyard by Marriott than West 39th residential. The design of the tower fits in better for a neighborhood like the Plaza, but the stone on the bottom is a nice touch that ties in to the shirtwaists in the area.

Re: 39th Street Condos
I think the design sucks, but whatever. It's streetfrontage. I still wish someone would start building nouveau colonades or apartments of this scale that nodded to colonade style. Agree - it looks like it was designed for a Dallas neighborhood by the Dallas architect, but I'm happy to see something...

Re: Covering Troost with tulips
I checked Troost out last year and the year before and have to say I've always been underwhelmed, but I think the program is a terrific effort (but for not a lot of payoff). I also would rather see some trees or shrubbery planted.
