Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel
Sportster, there was an alley that ran along the side of the convention hall between it and the Robert E. Lee Hotel. That's probably want you are remembering as a street. It's no big deal. I don't remember things accurately all the time. Thus, I constantly have to research details again, because I c...

Re: School District Woes
Looks like they are going to "lay off" ALL school principals system-wide despite seniority. But, they can all "reapply" for their jobs. Looks like a way of getting rid of deadwood without dealing with the seniority issue.

Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel
What are you talking about Sportster? The old convention hall didn't take up the entire block--just the southwest part--maybe 60 percent of the entire block. And the parking garage does take up more than just the old convention hall site. This photo link below shows the old convention hall directl...

Re: Clayton, Missouri video aerials
Clayton is 84 percent white, and the City of St. Louis is 49 percent black. Clayton is working on being the new downtown St. Louis--so that affluent white people feel safe. It's not there yet, but eventually it will get there. It will just take a few more decades of putting up towers, and installin...

Re: OFFICIAL: West Edge development
I guess that someone with money will buy it cheap, finance the completion costs through some private equity group, and rent it out to multiple tenants. Once the commercial real estate market comes back (10 years or so), they will sell it. The building is in the premium office location in the Metro, ...

Re: 1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel
Yes, that is the Folly in the background. Perhaps the hotel was giving that name by the property owner who built it. There were a lot of Confederate sympathizers in the Kansas City area. Even Harry Truman's paternal and maternal relatives, and his mother-in-law, were sympathetic to the Confederate c...

Re: ONGOING: Sprint Center bookings
Man. I listen to Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin, too, I just understand that they're crazy. The thing I find amusing about Rush Limbaugh is that people still listen to him. In most court cases, any kind of testimony from a former drug addict is most often argued to be unreliable and un...

1954 Demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel
I found this interesting article in the KC Free Press on the demolition of the Robert E. Lee Hotel at 13th and Wyandotte--now the site of the subterranean parking lot under Barney Allis Plaza. When it was demolished, the 200-room hotel was 29-years-old. http://www.kcfreepress.com/news/2010/apr/09/pa...

Bonds help Superior Linen to clean up 30th, Cherry area
Bonds help Superior Linen to clean up 30th, Cherry area. Of interest: Founded in 1893, the company has operated a plant from a former cable car powerhouse at 31st and Holmes since 1930. It doubled operations in the early 1990s, buying buildings and land at the southwest corner of 30th and Cherry. In...
