Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

One thing that I didn't realize until recently is there's no pleasure boat docks at KC on the MO River Omaha has a small marina and the other direction looks to be at Washington MO Agree, this is a big bummer for KC. There's also Cooper's Landing in Columbia, with a small dock, gas and camping (and...

Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

the takeway for kc seems like the stl area will be wanting to push more freight towards kc on the river, especially as I-70 upgrades seem to be going nowhere.

Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

the missouri river is much more cantankerous than the ohio or mississippi, from what i understand of its hydrology. seems like kc decided early on to put its eggs into the railroad basket and nearly abandoned the port. "2015: Port KC signs operating agreement with Kaw Valley Companies to operat...

Re: Gateway Terminal (container port)

heres some cool photos of the harbor rebuild/upgrade at granite city (funded by the state of illinois). for being a "river city" the port facilities around st.louis are/were in ruins...kc may see similar upgrades soon if not already. it's neat to see river port facilities becoming more lik...

Gateway Terminal (container port)

The container port development in Jefferson County, along with upgrades to other regional ports is progressing under the STL Regional Freightway plan which is the St. Louis regions port authority port authority(?). The container port has to be in Jefferson County since the bridges are too low north ...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

here's another rendering showing the practice fields and how they (and the fact that it is a garage) relate to the immediate built environment. shows an endcap building, which i hope is of substance and not just a SLU style elevator bank/stairwells. https://mls4thelou.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

None of those stadiums you mention are in urban, downtown locations besides Montreal, but that is located in a large park. If there is any space in Forrest Park to use for training facilities, that might make more sense. it's been implied that these are "placeholders" for potential future...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

the practice fields evidently have a parking garage beneath them. beats an above grade parking garage, of which st. louis is lousy with. additionally, a lot of MLS stadiums have practice fields nearby by design, including philly, montreal, LA, denver has like two dozen.

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

It seems a little odd to me that they are putting the practice fields right there. I guess it would be nice for the team, but it seems like a waste of space - something that would be better suited in a more suburban area. at first glance i agree (and practice facilities ARE usually located in the s...

Re: Bay Area short term job/suggestions/help

so, got a dose of california reality between having two fires (and a third-degree burned homeless guy who started them) next to my jobsite (we had to actually fight one of them to prevent it from spreading onto our jobsite), traffic (mainly the horror of 3 hour commutes/car sleeping for co-workers)...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

It's a personal preference, and there is no accounting for taste. I prefer a little more design flair in them. It's for sure interesting to see the designs of soccer stadiums evolve because we've seen so many of them built recently. I would like stadiums to evolve to be more common areas that inclu...

Re: KU-MU rivalry reborn?

Part of me is excited to see them play again. Part of me is sad there will never be a meaningful game between them ever again (unless they meet in the NCAA tournament). This is exactly how I feel about this. It was more fun for me when it meant something. This just seems like a version of the Mizzo...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

interesting to watch the progression of the various versions from 00s spaceblobs and shards to sort of like neo mcm or something. the end result looks more "mature" to me in a way modern architecture is supposed to look (in my opinion) in a serious city, instead of a gimmick. https://media...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

i thought about it, and i think i like that they resisted the temptation to "angle it all up," it's sort of reminiscent of "utopian" (or dystopian) mcm civic architecture. also really like that the sides are open, even though they are going to be mostly dead most of the year, ins...

Re: STL MLS proposal resurrection

if you guys are familiar with downtown west, the stadium and associated practice fields are going to be filling the absolute worst black hole in downtown. i don't know if there is an equivalent in kc..half abandoned freeway stub and run down parking lots...the feel of the area immediately west/north...
