Re: The KCMO School District
what I continue to find interesting in NKC HS is more diverse than most of the KCMO schools. It's roughly 60% white. The southern northland is one place people move to when they leave the KCPSD when they want a quality education. That's the problem with integration, it doesn't help when the black an...

Re: New Elementary School to be built in Rosedale
I think Liberty high school before the late 90s renovation had the pod style mentioned already. it had pods of six classrooms without walls, each room didn't have it's own door, so you had to walk through other classrooms to get to some of them. I'm not quite sure what it was, but the big common are...

Re: What Retailers St.Louis has that KC needs
Straubs. Strouds is KC pan-fried chicken. As far as Schnucks, I've never seen so much variablity in quality of selection and layout in a chain grocery store, especially between all the St. Louis City and inner suburban stores. It sort of annoying unless you are used to it. There are schnucks in cen...

[...but the net impact of AL on the district's surplus buildings is essentially zero. As is AL's impact on keeping people from moving to the burbs. Not true. I have at least five families that I know that have moved to Kansas because they didn't get picked in the AL lottery system. They couldn't af...

i wonder when they are going to release the details for the two light tower. Mr. Collison via Twitter: A deal is close to being announced from what I've been told informally by a city official in the know. Cordish said the same thing in January, that they were close, so take that with a grain of salt

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
Too many times developers go with design that's 'safe' or whatever is least expensive. Power & Light is a good example of a missed opportunity to have unique architecture that could draw visitors in and of itself. Instead or modern, cosmopolitan or even art deco we end up with warehouse wannabe...

Re: OFFICIAL: Port Authority Riverfront Project
it all depends on the zoning. right now, the problem with multiple parcels is they usually require setbacks on all four sides, each needs bike parking, an entrance, a certain number of car parking spots, utility access, right now where density and urban design is of any interest single large parcels...

Re: The KCMO School District
The best thing that could happen to downtown with schools is to split off and join the NKC district. Districts already cross county borders so no worries there. NKC HS is 10 minutes from downtown.

2.25 blocks of track to go in the crossroads (1850 to 2075). Delaware looks really good. I never cease to be amazed how bad people will park with evidence of how to do it staring them in the face. On the back in parking I predict there's going to be videos of a car backing away from a train after ot...

Re: Metro North Mall
I have a feeling this project may drag on until second creek starts developing. there's no need for more retail in the 152 corridor right now but add 75,000 people and that will change. and the empty commercial land outdoes even what's at and near Metro North the shopping center with target across 1...

Finally the end may be in sight...in 2 and a half more years! And how long does it take negotiate the addition of tr...

Re: One block of improvement?
looks like approx. $4000 per space to install removal, one demo/rebuild to a landscaped area project in Portland a decade ago was $3.80 per square foot. So go with $8/square foot today since construction costs did skyrocket. for comparison, the lot at the Corrigan Building on main is approx 16500 sq...

One block of improvement?
let's you have $10 million total to make changes on KCMO city streets today. Your goal is to maximize the changes you could make to get the most impact on as broad an area with improvements for as many modes as possible. Assume that nothing is off limits. You don't need to replace anything you remov...
