Movie theatre downtown?

Don't expect a movie theater DT until it is proven that KC Live is somewhat successful.

The Star: Pull Union Station out of mediocrity

I'm glad to see that they are going to seek funding from the local railroads. I hope they don't have to sell off any of the rail cars. I can see selling off duplicate memorabilia. That makes sense. I don't know about anyone else, but I'd like to see this rail museum be a living museum in the respec...

Traffic Circle for Westport Road

Grid, you picture is very interesting. But it raises some points with me. 1. How long does it take to get through the intersection? 2. Observe the line of cars coming from the upper right hand corner. And maybe at the lower left hand corner. It appears that they are stopped. So is there some type of...

What does the new OP arena mean for the DownTown Arena?

Of course it will hurt the downtown arena, it won't kill it, but it will hurt it. But it will hurt OP more. The hurt will be minor since the type of events that will play in the OP Arena would not play successfully in the DT arenas. You might say the Comets and the Knights are leaving DT but in the...

Traffic Circle for Westport Road

Many years ago there was a traffic circle at Holmes and Gregory. It was taken out and replaced with traffic signals to make the intersection work smoother. With equal traffic counts from all directions, and higher traffic counts, traffic lights were the answer. Meyer Circle works because a huge maj...

Traffic Circle for Westport Road

Traffic circles or slight curves what is the difference? It is still an uncontrolled intersection without straight lines of traffic. And Meyer Circle use to be more curvy than it is now. So tell me how would a roundabout work at Westport and Southwest Trafficway? Three lanes coming and going in two ...

Prediction: KC Outlaws go belly-up

Do the Outlaws get all the revenue from the ads on the dasher boards? Or just a portion? And what's KCKN paying for radio rights? Aside from those and the gate, I don't see any other significant sources of revenue. They probably get all of the revenue from the dasher boards but it would be a small ...

What does the new OP arena mean for the DownTown Arena?

What will the OP arena do to the new downtown arena? Will it hurt it? My answer would be it might sting but will not hurt it. It is possible that some of the smaller events that MIGHT be in the Sprint Center will go to OP but in reality the arenas serve different markets and events. Will it hurt Mun...

I'm simply AMAZED at the Sprint discussions here

It makes some sense to have company HG in Virginia. It is close to Washington DC. However, in the long run this does not bode well for the KC area. It loses another Fortune 500 company. Yes, there will be a big presense here but the decision makers will be some place else. And what was said about th...

Kansas Country not Kansas City - The Density Scenario

One of the tough things about these threads is getting back to the original point. Speaking as a person who grew up in south Kansas City, I've noticed the obvious stagnation if not pure decline here. This area peaked out in the mid-70's. Nothing has changed yet there are many acres of undeveloped l...

The sad, sad legacy of Lamar Hunt

Not to defend Hunt, but he could be in a situation of "asset rich, cash poor". The paper stated he built soccer stadiums in Columbus and Dallas. Did he build them or did the local government? If he did build the stadiums he might be in a cash poor situation.

OFFICIAL - Performing Arts Center construction

If the PAC wants the garage directly north then let them contribute the $10 million. What is another $10 million on top of the $300 million plus.

The $10 million extra could make the garage unfeasible for the city to issue bonds for construction. Remember, the garage has to pay for itself.

Fantasy Retrofits: Barney Allis Plaza

The garage holds less than 1,000 cars. If they are going to lower the south end to street level that will eliminate quite a few spaces that are needed. Maybe what they need to do it wipe out the whole facility and construct a modern garage with more spaces in its place with a park-like setting at st...

Anyone been to Ward Parkway Center recently?

Was at the Center last night. Ate at Baja Fresh. There was some traffic in the mall portion and cars in the lot. Not dead but far from robust. The theaters had very little traffic. Target doing well it appears.

Yeah.
Overland Park Outlaws
Overland Park Knights

Neither will like it there because of the rent they will have to pay.

The Olathe Arena Pipedream

Yeah but if if venues do not want to there it does not matter. Example KC Knights owner has said he would like to move to a new smaller arena preferably th OP one. Can't get much smaller than what they are in now. They are playing in Hale Arena which will seat 5,000 to 6,000. Not great seating but ...

Best Local News Stations

Believe the original WDAF, channel 4, was the first TV station on the air in KC back in the 50's. Maybe the rules were different back then. The original owner of TV WDAF was probably the same owner of the radio station WDAF that was 610 AM. Much like the original WHB radio station when it was 710 AM.
