Re: McCormack Baron to sell Quality Hill

Buyers(not renters) usually will want updated kitchens and baths and granite surfaces seem to be the standard.  It would be interesting if they will offer any units "as is."  It would be to the advantage of the buyer as the developers always make a bundle above and beyond any cost of impro...

Re: Grand Opera House, 710 and 711 Main to be razed.

Which Kemper are you wanting to confront?  Crosby has nothing to do with Commerce and the Grand Opera.  He was responsible over 30 years ago for the loss of Emery Bird Thayer, but at least after a few years put up a decent structure in its place.

Re: Covering Troost with tulips

I don't give much a chance for lower Troost for a good many years.  When I lived in central Hyde 20 years ago there were the same tentative seeds of hope that never sprouted to achieve a critical renewal.  Maybe if a light rail line went down it there might happen enough investment.

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

I agree.  To some extent.  On the glass half full side, the IRS is not comparable, as it had no residential component; and any development in central Kansas City that devoted half its footprint to residential is a milestone(see Crown Center with its 2 residential structures).  Yes what we have heard...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

So sad, but 40 years after the destruction of Kansas City's greatest historical structure(the Board of Trade) the city has not learned its lesson.  The only reason downtown has its wealth of historical structures is that there was so little development for years and many of the structures from the e...

Re: Cold Storage Lofts

I owned traditional homes for 20 years.  Wish there had been condo alternatives available in this town years ago.  I can never replace all those hours spent on maintenance.  All those nice days spent in the yard looking down at the ground instead of having fun.  Traditional free standing house with ...

Gotta remember the structure is unsound and the guts need to be replaced.  A similar situation to the now lost National(Professional Building) Garage at 11th and McGee.

Not JoCo post WWII suburban, but streetcar suburban.  KC actually has very few true urban neighborhoods

Re: Grand Opera House, 710 and 711 Main to be razed.

I would not mind seeing the facade restored along with the cupola and a new garage inserted to serve a redeveloped Walnut Tower apartment/condo.  That place looks very rundown when I go into vote, I imagine the small apartments must be just as sad, with their window a/c units piercing the walls and ...

I always tip the servers there.  They always hustle (especially Joseph).  Please tip your server even though you order up front.  Try the new tuna entree, yummy.

Re: Roanoke...best urban hood

Lovely neighborhood, I love how the stone for the homes came out of Roanoke Park, that was once a quarry.  But single family mansions on large lots do not constitute an "urban" neighborhood.  Age does not make urbanity.  This is a century old suburban development.

This is a much more precarious situation, as from the top elevation the giant steps are not at all visible, and the flight is much higher.

Re: Huge vacant area between NKC and Gladstone

There was a proposal to develop this as residential some years ago.  Do not remember the particulars but I think it was close to a decade ago, and either was turned down by zoning or TIF.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Main Site Proposal

Whats with the funky stairs in the courtyard?  The east portion are normal height, on the west double height.  It appears that the double height could function as some sort of seating area(nice at lunchtime) but from the top there is no warning and someone expecting normal height steps could take an...

There is and ad for this in the Visit KC guide says opening this spring.  Anyone have a date?  Lists the Zebra Room full service restaurant and the Martini Loft in the mezzanine.
