Re: Washington Sq Park between Crown Center/Union Station
The fact that so much of KC’s parkland was initially built on land developers didn’t want doesn’t help. Instead of building parks amongst neighborhoods, we instead built a lot of parks on the leftover land, on craggy cliffs and hills that are just tougher landscapes for parks

Re: Companies moving/expanding to KC area
I know it might well have had zero difference, but personally it’s hard to imagining KC losing so many of these local businesses had they been strongly downtown instead of anonymous businesses parks. Counterpoint is DST which was very much in downtown and completely collapsed. At least we got some n...

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
This is a huge relief, but I’d love if we were able to keep things from getting this bad. Vacant buildings in a downtown are typical, but ruins are dangerous

Re: Seiden's Furs Appears to Be Closing
If the city can force demolition, why can’t they just, claim the building and pass it over to someone who might be able to maintain it? Not sure why the only options for this kind of thing are leaving the building untouched or completely obliterating it

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
This might be getting too abstract, but I’m an advocate for airport rail connectors because it essentially builds the airport into downtown. The great train stations of the US used to be generally located in or near downtowns, which was great because it gave locals a central location to arrive and d...

Re: Capping the Loop
Guess we’ll just not invest in any park space, transit, etc. whatsoever until there’s not a single person left unhoused. I can’t fathom the race to the bottom mentality some of you guys have. Let’s just pour concrete in the swimming pools while we’re at it because sometimes people go there that are...

Re: Generic ongoing KCATA thread
Culturally KC is hyped for the world cup, but it seems like the powers that be have been slow on the uptake. There are at least half a dozen hotel projects that were proposed before covid that haven’t come back alive, even though the WC will probably be the highest demand for hotels in KC history. T...

I’m not seeing a huge difference either. The plaza at 1:08 looked kinda nice but that’s not really a “street” improvement
