Re: CVS going in at 43rd and Rainbow
I'm fairly pleased with the renderings - the building shows red brick and a couple of false doors that look like garage doors that roll up. And for what it's worth, the signs in the rendering show 24 hours on them. Looks like the neighbors put quite a few stipulations on the business, including li...

Re: The new Chatham condos plans
Looks like the PIEA is starting the process toward granting tax abatements for the Chatham. If the TIF committee approves, it would become 32 affordable and 8 market rate apartments for seniors. http://kansascity.bizjournals.com/kansascity/stories/2010/01/11/daily56.html I was hoping the condo plan...

Re: Could KC host the FIFA World Cup?
I think the Cotton Bowl was only involved because it is in Dallas, where the main draw is clearly Jerry World. Dallas will probably get a good number of games split between the two. Keep in mind the list was 18 cities, not 18 stadiums. I don't think there's a good chance that games would be split...

Re: Could KC host the FIFA World Cup?
I'm anxious to see what the outcome is, but a little worried about the impartiality of the bid commitee. Spike Lee will likely pull for Atlanta, Dan Flynn (US Soccer CEO) has roots in StL, Robert Iger should go for Orlando, Robert Kraft for Boston, and so on. Makes you wonder if the the committee ...

Re: The Official Kansas City Weather Thread
They've cleared plenty of major streets. Many times. And a lot of secondary streets. And don't the plowers get paid more (a LOT more) on holidays? Working on Christmas may have taken a big chunk of the budgeted money. On a side note, a lady a block over from me (around 39th/Roanoke) complained to ...

I think this is great - now I can make a margarita at home, turn on the telly and it's like I'm at Tengo Sed without having to actually drive downtown

Re: Vote to repeal KC earnings tax?
KC needs to start getting information out to the voters explaining exactly what the e-tax funds, how much comes in annually and what portion of the revenues are from people who work in KC but live outside of KC city limits. If the city Funks up and doesn't spell out to voters what they'll be losing...

Re: Oklahoma City - "MAPS3" (streetcar line and more)
... In ten years, OKC could be a city I never thought it could be. OKC is already a city I never thought it could be. People in OKC got tired of losing out to other locations when companies were considering expansion. Local government included the public in initial discussions on MAPS 1 and the tax...

they were military contractors, if i recall. regardless, is he disputing the depiction? seems pretty accurate to me: "you're sitting on something we need... and, by the way, we have really big guns." did anyone catch the name of the resource the (all-white) earthlings were after? unobtain...

Re: Hamburger Mary's
So, other than this place being "gay-friendly" or whatever that even means, does anyone have anything to say about the food? Is this a burger joint with a drag queen theme, or a drag queen hangout that also serves burgers? Mostly burgers on the menu. There were I think three salads - th...

Re: Avatar review
Went to see this Friday at Mainstreet and surprised it was in one of the smaller theatres. I can't imagine NOT seeing it in 3D - absolutely amazing!! The effects more than made up for any lapses in the story, dialogue or character development. My only gripe would be Sigourney Weaver's avatar look...

I don't understand the last sentence of the article saying that the next study would identify an alternative location for the deck. How many locations are available when you're capping the south loop for a six-block span? Also, since Cordish/AEG get so worked up about light rail passing between P&a...

Re: One Nineteen (Crate and Barrel center)
Personally, I would like to have seen West Elm and Crate/Barrel locate on the Plaza, but to think that their site location team didn't have every reason to put them in Leawood is ridiculous. They have Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barns in both locations...Williams Sonoma knew what they were choosing...

Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown
I don't agree with the riverfront option, either. The purpose of putting the GSA in the east loop is part of a larger idea to get additional street-level activity to occur in the East Village project. Putting it on the riverfront would likely mean the development would be more spread out in a camp...

Re: Kansas City Officially Has A New Mayor - Mark Funkhouser
Personally, I think this is a good move and IF (big if) it actually is an indicator that Funkhouser is actually learning to play the game, we might be in for an interesting remainder of his term. I think this would only be a good move if Cauthen had had performance requirements added to his contrac...
