Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

I noticed that The North Face closed. With Moosejaw closed too, maybe it's time for a Patagonia store!

Does anyone know if the sale went through?

Yes, the view was great there BEFORE the boring Light buildings were built. Show is the real view!

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

The view from the East Village aren't even bad. Our City Hall is one of the most beautiful towers downtown. You would also see 909 Walnut which is another beauty. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.1017865,-94.5749607,3a,75y,246.61h,102.4t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1stWxjp3dvQE5XLFn7a0u46A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?e...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

Nothing to stop the stadium project over, but I actually really like the little office building at 1501 Oak. It's a cool example of modernist architecture. It's just so pure. Will be sad to see it go. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0955014,-94.5788397,3a,44.4y,103.54h,91.81t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1svr8...

Re: 50th & Rainbow Mixed-Use

I'd love to see a project with similar architecture, especially the terracotta cladding come to the Crossroads. That giant parking lot at 20th and Grand could be built out with a colorful 'village' like this. I like the variety of sizes and the interstitial spaces it creates. Of course the parking s...

Re: NE Corner of 14th & Wyandotte (300 unit apartment)

A major problem holding our city back are the schools. I know lots of urban-minded people who love the city but end up thinking they have to move to Clay County or KS because of the schools. The other issue is crime and more importantly, the perception crime. I almost never see police in the city un...

Nichols Rd could be turned into something resembling La Ramblas in Barcelona. It's a wide pedestrian promenade in the middle with narrow traffic lanes on each side and wide sidewalks next to the retail shops. Image this but with only one lane on each side of the central promenade. https://pro.static...

Green Dirt Farms to open a crossroads restaurant at 1601 Oak St. 2-story space: café on first floor and an event space upstairs.

This is within the potential Royals stadium site I believe. They don't seem deterred.

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

Love this. I agree with everything midtownkid is saying. I also would run it down Broadway. Why would you not? That section of Broadway could really build up into a nice urban district with a streetcar route through there. Running it south of KU Med puts the route closer to a lot more population de...

I've created a map of the E-W route I'd like to see. Dark blue spots = stop. Light blue = maybe stops. Lets pick up service on Broadway along the Uptown district while we are at it. That area has a lot of potential but it needs a boost! https://skylinespace.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com/media/kcsc...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

Midtown just wasn't laid out with enough East-West through streets. I don't think we can close W 39th to cars. Also, getting rid of the street parking on 39th is a mistake. I bet most people who are driving to 39th are not coming from a place where they could choose the streetcar as an alt way to ge...

Re: KU/KCK <-----> TSC East/West Transit

There was a meeting for the Volker neighborhood yesterday (at the request of the neighborhood). People were frustrated. I'd say 70% of people there were against the line coming down W 39th. There were fears of losing the small businesses & small scale development of the street. There were also c...

"medians and bump-outs also are planned for Main Street. The idea is to improve the appearance of the important artery that connects the major nodes of the River-Crown-Plaza urban core." Yes I've noticed some of the new bump outs along Main, and I'm very happy to see them. This should be d...

Every time someone mentions a transit center here with a CVS, all I can think of is this ugly ass transit center in Silver Spring (DC). Perhaps it's just because I used to live near it. https://wamu.org/wp-content/uploads/images/attach/04.10.13news-angle-silver-spring-transit-center_3-600x338.jpg ht...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The Nordstrom and Movie Theater sites really needs to be dealt with. Once those are taken care of, then we can turn attention back to the Plaza Tennis Courts. Additionally, the Plaza wasn’t always as we know it today. JC Nichols changed it over time and so did his family. I guarantee that if his fa...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

The tennis courts should remain. The original Plaza design included these parks, and they were not just an afterthought. It really works aesthetically right now as a 'gateway' to the Plaza. The open space of the parks makes the Giralda tower and the adjacent tower have more presence. Some half-assed...

Not necessary. People can navigate a few blocks of the city without this direct path. In reality, I'd bet most people will come to watch the game and quickly leave anyway.

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

I don't want to spread the love downtown because it's easy. I want to push the vitality of downtown further out because it needs to be done. I do think the Baseball district and P&L could complement each other. What would you presume they wouldn't complement each other? I don't really want Cordi...
