Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
I don't want to spread the love downtown because it's easy. I want to push the vitality of downtown further out because it needs to be done. I do think the Baseball district and P&L could complement each other. What would you presume they wouldn't complement each other? I don't really want Cordi...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium
The East Village is the best site. It is cleared and ready. Putting the stadium there would pull some life into that part of Downtown. People would have to walk between Main and go past our beautiful City Hall, past the empty lot where the Library once was (probably would be quickly developed) and p...

The other notable thing about the home's architecture: it was designed by Root and Siemens. That same firm designed the Scarritt Building and Arcade.

Re: Southmoreland
That's unfortunate, but that actually doesn't matter for local landmark listing. It's the shell what is protected. Owners of property on the local register can do whatever they want on the inside, including demo. The owners are temporary. The building will (should) outlast them. That's what being a ...

Re: Southmoreland
Perhaps the Council should just vote NOW on whether they would or wouldn't agree to rezone the parcel BEFORE the demolition. If the owners don't get a commercial rezoning approved, then Birt's offer would be moot anyway and they could just put it on the residential market. That's the fastest way to...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal
The old terminal's circle drive could be a good place to wait for people (cell lot). Maybe you could park and go in and there would be food and restrooms while you wait. I'm just trying to think of a use for one of the old terminals. I really like them from an architectural standpoint. I think they ...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I can see the pedestrian mall idea being great...but if it's not patrolled correctly, I could see it creating new issues. It may attract a lot of people who just kind of loiter and sit on benches or whatever they would put in the former street. Closing the street would creates more unobstructed spac...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Hoping the new owner do invest in the district's historic buildings and build some high-quality new development on the old Cinemark site and possibly replace the underground parking behind Classic Cup with a new building. If they spend enough, they could get architects to design some buildings that ...

Re: OFFICIAL - Pennway Point
The negativity surrounding this development is baffling. People just see the farris wheel but don't understand what else is taking shape there. I am tired of reading comments like: "stupid location" or "there is nothing nearby" or "watch out for bullets and homeless" or...

Re: Southmoreland
yep Rumor is that the developer wants to demolish not only 4526 Warwick, but also the beautiful Simpson House and the Unitarian church. This would create a large development plot. It would really change the scale and feel of that area, in a negative way IMO. https://cdn0.weddingwire.com/vendor/26858...

That is correct.KCDowntown wrote: ↑Wed Aug 23, 2023 4:27 pm I think I remember reading that there would be a staircase or access point from the old Carter-Water's Building at Broadway & Pershing down to the ground level.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
Nonsense. The Plaza will be fine as long as the buildings are standing. Areas can be revitalized at any point in time. The Plaza is still surrounded by great things that will keep it going. It will just need to evolve in some ways.MidtownCat wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 9:10 am I’m concerned the Plaza is reaching a point of no return.

Sounds like The Fresh Mediterranean Co. from Lawrence will be opening up in the old Bronx space soon.
I was afraid they were going to demolish the buildings there. This gives me a little hope.

Re: 1822 Main Redevlopment
We need some better coloring for some of these buildings. I remember when they were doing the 1914 Main building and they put the insulation board up that was purple, I believe. Then, they covered it with aluminum siding and the life sank out of the building. I wish they would have just left it off...
