Re: Coming out in Kansas (NY Times article)

So, referencing large groups of people you know nothing about as being involved in some sort of "post-sideways sofa sommelier fad" or referring to them as "booze snobs and foodies" is not ignorant, presumptuous or prejudicial? no,  not if: a. they are not 'large groups', but rat...

Re: Boulevard to release five more beers (and a wine) in 2007!

no need for snarky apologies.  i really don't care what you put into your body, much less what comestibles you deem hogslop.  one man's whore is another man's housewife.  i certainly wasn't attacking you personally for your eating and drinking preferences.  but i don't for a minute think anyone has ...

Re: Coming out in Kansas (NY Times article)

oh, they have an idea.  it is a scewed and unrealistic vision, but it is a idea, nonetheless.  people talk about the midwestern inferiority complex,  but my understanding of pop psychology has always been that ignorant, presumptuous and predjudicial posturing is largely a symptom of one's own insecu...

Re: Boulevard to release five more beers (and a wine) in 2007!

i know a few select mo wines, and a kansas wine (i believe from a vineyard west of leavenworth) that have gotten good press and a little buzz, i haven't been very impressed by the wines i've tasted, except a norton or 2.  but i dislike sweet wines, and i've never had a reisling i liked.  i also disl...

Re: As Older Cities Shrink, Some Reinvent Themselves

Would it be so bad if a lot of the blighted/abandoned neighborhoods in the northeast part of town no longer received investment from the city?
i will assume you are referring to northeast kck as opposed to northeast kcmo.

"Fashion prescribed the ritual by which the fetish Commodity wished to be worshipped...It stands in opposition to the organic. It prostitutes the living body to the inorganic world. In relation to the living it represents the rights of the corpse. Fetishism, which succumbs to the sex appeal of ...

Fiesta Azteca is the best Mexican food in the metro, imo.
if i eat there, and find this to be false, i plan to press heresy charges. i've been directed to some really second rate mexican joints lately with a similiar line of praise.

the food/ag lobby is also very powerful in washington. so is the insurance lobby, who, if allowed, would regulate every PERSONAL health decision a human could make, in order to maximize their profits. that said, i am personally in favor of banning toxins and other health risks in food for public co...

i read a survey somewhere not too long ago that more american's knew the names of w and clinton's dogs than were aware that they both favored the death penalty. so i'd way the hussein thing is a death knell.  unless the republican candidate is less conventionally physically attractive, as that is pr...

i usually prefer detached single family hoods along the lines of the queens/north bronx/chicago/stl variety.  which is one of the things i loved about the northeast's built envorironment.  i personally dislike the tudor (partly because the lack front porches, which i think should be a requirement fo...

i'm not a big brookside booster, but i do think they deserve some credit for maintaining the caliber of neighborhood they have.  having lived in midtown, northeast, and waldo i think there is something to be said for brookside's ability to maintain itself, even though i personally prefer all three o...

Re: OFFICIAL: East Village downtown neighborhood

^exactly.  these are the types of situations in which investigative journalism (r.i.p.) would come in handy.  i don't know shit about what's stalling this deal, or what the options are to get passed this impasse.  perhaps there should be a job where someone with access to inside info could research ...
