Re: We need a new airport!!!
And by alarm bells I mean legal exposure for the city. It would be negative, indeed, if this project were held up by lawsuits from other developers who didn't get a chance to compete for the project.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I really think this process should be open. B&M is an incredibly successful and talented engineering firm, and I don't doubt their expertise on the airside of the project, but I'm having difficultly finding any 'terminal design' images in their portfolio. We have some of the best designers in th...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I know, there will be public oversight, my main concern is how much of a mark-up there will be to cover private construction loan interest and general conditions. And by mark-up, I mean 'less money to spend on nice stuff.'

Re: We need a new airport!!!
I'd take 3% less in interest and public oversight, personally. I disagree that pressure to perform and save dollars will lead to a more inspiring and lasting terminal design. Remember, this will be the front door of Kansas City for a generation. I'd take my chances with bond issue first. Voters aren...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
My point is, the B&M proposal is unnecessary at this point. Voters are already starting to understand the need, as you said. This new approach will only muddy the waters and ultimately will give us a watered down solution, at least on the passenger experience side, if it passes.

Re: We need a new airport!!!
This will pass easily in November. Why do you think this? Because of the private financing? I'd like to think that a bond issuance proposal would also pass. Two big negatives from the sole-source P3 proposal: 1. Higher interest rates and desire for profitability leads to a less than inspiring termi...

Re: We need a new airport!!!
It still looks to me like the only real purpose of this scheme is to trick voters into thinking that the private sector is eating some of the cost of a new terminal. This vote will fail because of its lack of transparency. The problem KC voters have with a new single terminal isn't the (non-existen...

Re: 14 Story apartment tower - Westport
Oddly, the plan slices off the part of the Manor Square Building that is currently the primary Pennsylvania Street Entrance, and the Box Office for the Tivoli. It looks like it proposes moving this entry to the smaller entry by KCAVP and the elevator, on the old Manor Bread Building. Additionally, I...

Re: Brookside
I spent seven years in EBro (Rockhill Ridge) and recently moved. It wasn't a terrible neighborhood, but most of the neighbors had a sort of inward focus that didn't translate into a sense of community. interesting. for us, in the 5 weeks we've been in BKS, we've met and chatted with as many, if not...

BTW, by gunshots I mean 'the gunshots I hear from nearby', not like shell casings all over the street. I never had any problems at my old house, but there were various break-ins on our block over the years that I lived there.

It is the 'third' parking lot on Washington, behind and SW of MiniBar. There is a gate at the east edge, which used to always be unlocked, and one could walk down the steps in that little grassy area and turn left to the Lava Room.beautyfromashes wrote:What's the Lova Lot?

Re: Interstate Highway thru Crossroads ('80s Plan)
Line Creek Loudmouth has a couple posts on this: http://www.linecreekloudmouth.com/blog/2016/04/driven-on-i-735-or-mo-769-lately.html Maybe one more I couldn't find. This is a separate limited access highway, a little further to the south, although it could be a spiritual predecessor. I think the t...

Re: Interstate Highway thru Crossroads ('80s Plan)
The area between 15th (Truman) and 31st Street was generally referred to as Midtown into the early 1990s, with everything south of 31st falling under 'Westport', although the naming transition began before then. 'Crossroads' is a made up thing that stuck, from the mid-late 90s. The 1977 "Kansas...

In design, it would have been similar to the Broadway flyover that aligns Broadway with West Pennway south of Southwest Boulevard.

Draw a line west along the north edge of the KCTR tracks, starting at 22nd and Grand and turning to the SW slightly at the freighthouse in the process demolishing the freighhouse) and continue to Cesar Chavez. I believe that was the route, but it may have aligned with West Pennway on the west side. ...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
Does the city or neighborhood have any power to deny the closing of the street? Seems like that would be a pretty big deal but I have no idea. The city would need to legally vacate the street. W. 2nd St in front of Market Station is a good example. it's a street, yes, but it's not a city street. Th...

Re: East Side Development
To be clear, I think there's exactly nothing that the OTR's rennaissance can teach us about how to help the East Side, other than that we should look elsewhere for inspiration. Indeed, pick any well known example of an urban neighborhood that has gone from an undesirable, impoverished place to a de...
