Well, for the most part, the Westport folks(the bargoers, anyway) aren't generally urban-dwellers, and urban-dwellers(I find) are a bit more accepting of people different than themselves than the typical Westport clubber.

Not trying make a definition. Just stating what I have noticed.

Avoid the hassle of the downtown lights by taking the bus and reading to forget about your surroundings.

While an arena/ballpark will make downtown look better, it won't actually change anything, materially. I have a buddy from KC who just took a two-year contract in Orlando. His plan is to finish that up, and move back to KC and get a downtown condo, because this area will, as he says, "blow up." I can't help but agree, if the present course is resumed.

I think Westport would become much more of a local nightspot if the discotheques went elsewhere, and I agree heartily that they would fit well downtown. I am not sure if I have heard enough helicopters in Midtown to be used to them yet(not like police and ambulance sirens), but I honestly just don't hear them that much. I could have thick walls or something, but all I ever hear outside is the occasional fireworks show, planes flying over head, siren...

I have flown SW 6 times since 9/11(it being my favorite airline, hands down), and getting in and out of security at KCI is fine. As for Denver's fares going up, such is life. The hub style is a dying breed, and that's fine with me. The solution should be another company(or transit method) coming in ...

I sure hope not. The 56 is the only one that I know of that runs really late, and the one that'll get me to work at 11 PM, if we move to where I think we're moving.

I think it looks interesting, but still ugly. I would hate to have a building that looks like that in my town.

Upon investigation, I found I was wrong in my assertion.

And in that time, if memory serves me, from last time I looked at the census site(I love it), KC itself only gained a bit over 6000 people, out of 193,000. Now, that's sprawl.

It's just the consuming nature of the sprawl cycle. Grain Valley will be a cookie-cutter suburb, with good schools and Old Navy shopping, and Odessa will be on the drawing board, while KC, Independence, Raytown, and Blue Springs rot in the sprawl's wake.

And I wonder if they can attract people to places that far east on Armour.

Because it would need to be subsidized. To get people in JoCo to vote for the tax increase, some other deal-sweetener, like adding lanes to I-35, would have to happen. Once that cookie gets handed to the people, they will _never_ ride the train.

Oh... and I like Union Station. it's cool.

I understand that often public transit needs a significant capital investment to get going, but that's initial. However, there is no reason that daily running and maintenance should be publicly subsidized. That proves that it has already failed. Other things need to change before countless millions ...

I think it's horrible when the ATA shuts down lines, especially ones that many people like, but the truth of the matter is that with the city's current favortism to individuals driving their own cars, the ATA doesn't stand a chance. Yeah, maybe one day it'll be like a real downtown, after 5, too.
