Re: UMKC Conservatory of Music considers move to downtown
If Greitens resigns in disgrace, can we go back and try to get matching funding for this, or has that ship already sailed?

Re: Amazon searching for second HQ
It overstates that KC has an international airport, which is likely not broad enough for their requirements. Its pretty indicative of our standing in the competition, which is that we really just satisfy the basic requirements of the RFP, but we're affordable. Sacramento and KC were included in tha...

Great name. The story would really help set the mood. They should put it on the back of the drinks menu or something, it's too short to buy. And then put Hemingway books front and center.

*adjusts glasses* um, actually
The apostrophe is pretty cringe inducing though. I also don't like the name, reinforces the perception that we get lots of tornadoes.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown
So I think just about everyone both here and on twitter wants a Target, but what do you want from a Target that we don't have now? Even if we don't get a Target, what other shops would fill the need? I mostly go to Target now for kitchen supplies, home goods and consumable housewares: dish soap, la...

There was a preliminary rendering released, but I thought this was further down the road. Preleasing already, wow.

Re: Misc Crossroads News
East and West store permit at 1828 Grand...could it be this place? Http://eastandwest.store I talked to a business owner in crossroads who confirmed this was the case. Looks like the men's clothing selection downtown is improving, at least on the higher end. An expansion of an existing store is als...

Re: Anti-rail proposed ordinance
Clever. It allows the city to let the streetcar to go forward without directly going against "the will of the voters". Unfortunately, it legitimizes the ordinance. Hopefully support for light rail will have increased citywide by the time we want to expand again.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown
I think that downtown has almost all of those, and the things that it doesn't have will eventually be just a streetcar ride away. What we need is more selection of the things we already have, so that people can find what suits them, and more of the places that a person would go to often, i.e. Gyms. ...

Maybe 23 per floor? That looks about right. 69 units, 74 parking spaces. Maybe 16 are designated for extended stay?

Re: Amenities missing from downtown
^Agree. And for the most part downtown has eats covered with few exceptions. What retail outside food is desired? Many have been mentioned earlier in thread and downtown has gained many since then, except a bookstore. Is a bookstore still desirable? Broader clothing? General internal doctors? Are t...

NPSJ’s work would be instantly be 1000% better if they stopped putting hats on their buildings. I thought 531 Grand looked great before the cornice went up. It had a nice boxy modern look. It's as if buildings are a Lego set and NSPJ simply needs to call the building complete one page earlier in th...

Re: Bike Lanes
Gilham would be a great place to connect downtown and midtown. Grand connects to Gilham via 27th and McGee trafficway. That is probably the best way to go because of the grade on those roadways. The Galleria developer is installing bike lanes on McGee trafficway out of their own pocket. Speaking of...

Re: Bike Lanes
I've ridden on Grand once since the bike lanes were painted and probably will not do that again. One plan for Grand had a two way cycletrack on one side of the road, protected by trees and a curb. That would be great if they got that done one day, although the city will probably just call Grand good...

Re: A quick population hypothetical for data fiends
Not sure what the urban core density was in 1940, but the city population was 399,178 with an area of 58.6 square miles, for a density of 6,812 people per square mile. I believe that would have been from the river to Gregory Boulevard and from state line to about where 1-435 is now, based of a map f...
