Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

unfortunately, the Plaza is essentially a shopping mall in charming 1920s architecture. its core function is not serving a neighborhood, it's maximizing rents from (mostly) the chains that can afford them. it will be interesting to see what happens to the Plaza in the next 10-20 years. brick and mor...

i mean...this has been tried. there was a mcdonald's on the plaza for many years, where noodles & co (?) is (was?) now, next to the defunct movie theatre.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

probably a moot point since Winstead's is almost certainly on its last legs--but the architecture of the location seems fine to me, as a relic. it was built in, what, the 1940s, when the city was 5x as dense as it is now? i guess one could argue it was an early symptom of the car-centric culture tha...

Re: Brookside

in other BKS restaurant news - Earl's Premier is a VERY welcome addition to the neighborhood. i think BKS could do well with a few more interesting, local spots like this--including in the panera space, or other open spaces (fiddly fig, etc) https://earlspremier.com/ they have done a great job with ...

this project is peak cringe. need to focus less on gimmicky shiny objects and more on urban/pedestrian fundamentals.

anyone know what might be going into the Panera space? i saw a rumor somewhere, maybe nextdoor, that Five Guys might be going in there....I hope not.. Would you prefer a Texas Toms? ha! i hope we have better choices than five guys vs. texas toms. i guess it's likely to house a franchise but I still...

Re: Brookside

Block marketing the former Childrens Place building at 59th and BKS, next to the trail, as retail/restaurant space. Would love to see this renovated as maybe a european style food hall/market/bar with outdoor seating, with big open doors that face the trail, etc. Could be open early to late as an al...

Re: Can KC Secede and join Kansas?

I wonder how long the two party system will last as the party platforms become more and more shifted towards the far left and far right. As an unabashed leftist, I would LOVE to see the Dems lurch really far to the left--but it does not seem to be happening. There is this pervasive narrative of &qu...

Nashville. . . . bonkers growth Off-topic of Denver, but I have never understood how/why Nashville has become such a "hot" city. Unlike Denver it's not adjacent to mountains, and unlike Atlanta or Austin I am not aware of it being a really fast-growing jobs center. What industry or phenom...

Re: Downtown Baseball Stadium

agreed that KC lacks overall "bustle" most of the time, but i really think that is true of most cities. i've been to most larger cities in the country, and other than the small handful that are truly pedestrian-oriented*, most do not feel all that bustling. GRID's mention of Richmond is la...

Re: OFFICIAL - New KCI Terminal

Agreed. The parking busses as well. In the new KCI terminal, will rental cars be onsite or will they still use busses? Seems like it would be best to eliminate the use of busses altogether.
