Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

Demo, Tower Properties rarely develops anything unless it's a building or space for Commerce or UMB. The only hope I have is that some bigger bank will buy both banks, and their real estate arm, Tower Properties, eventually, and take advantage of developing the Tower Properties land holdings. Yes I...

Re: Film Row building threatened with demolition

Oh yes Fang, that is one of my favorite pictures. Though that street's today shot is something I never want to see again lol. We also have a problem with the wrong things being in the wrong places. For example, the Bonfil's Building on the SW corner of 12th and Grand has several retail slots designe...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??

So does Delaware go through the middle of that plan, in between the two buildings? Or do they plan on eliminating Delaware? Not a fan of that, though if you are going to have a super block, it might as well be here.

The building looks pretty nice.

Re: On-going downtown development projects

Demo, the P&L District building on W. 13th between Main and Baltimore was designed to have a second H&R Block tower constructed on top of it. This was before the Crash of 2008, and before H&R Block got into financial trouble with their banking interests and started laying people off ins...

Open until 5:30. Can someone explain to me why restaurants do this? It's got to be costing them money to stay open from 2-5 with very few people eating during those times. Why stay open and then close right before dinner starts? Catch the office drones who might carry out dinner??? That's my best g...

Re: Postcards From the Edge of Time

Wow, what an amazing picture! I'm pretty sure I've seen that shot somewhere before, but it is great nonetheless. I highly suggest everybody to click on that picture and zoom in on it. Take a few minutes to look at every bit of it zoomed in. There is such amazing depth to it. So many cool old buildin...

Cool rendering. You forgot the apartments/ garage being added north of the Power and Light building. And it hasn't been proposed yet, but I'm hoping that the Truman Boulevard/ capping of the loop will be happening by then :D

Re: Misc Crossroads News

A small blurb in the LCRA Affirmative Action report this month caught my eye - it mentioned a plan for turning this little guy at 1829 Oak into a new brewery and beer garden called the Emperial Brewery. KCDowntown Oooh that would be terrific! I have always been extremely fascinated by that building.

Re: On-going downtown development projects

I would be fine if they demolished the old library building at 1301 McGee and put a mixed use development there. There's more than enough room to put up a 35-45 story hotel / condo with a parking garage and more retail /eateries at ground level!! 1301 McGee? Which building are you talking...

Re: Big, empty buildings. What's left?

Just remember that it's owned by Tower, right? Think of all the good they've done with their other parcels in the north loop... Lots of people say buildings are unstable, about to fall in, etc. they're almost always saying "I don't want to spend the money." The are saying that about the L...

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

That's the first time I've been called the streetcar's daddy. So many others to thank... My point was NOT to defend the anti-density voices but to say that it may explain why the developer is not going more vertical or addressing parking in the most progressive way. Well in many ways you are man. S...

Re: Columbus Park Redevelopment

Question: Has the Columbus Park neighborhood been against much density in this new redevelopment? Or is this merely speculation? And it's a little surprising to hear you make such a statement Dave, with you being the Streetcar's daddy and all. But I'm sure you are just trying to stick up for the cur...

Hush your mouth. We are done with that wasteful behavior!
But what do you do with a building like this that is wasting space?

There's only certain times that an implosion should be used. And I think this may be one of them.

Re: On-going downtown development projects

The building's cross-sections are not square with the street grid either at the bottom or at the top, though the roof isn't terribly far askew. It's obvious why it's not square at the base; I'm not sure the open space created by the cut-off corner would be very useful, though, without a lot of reta...

It doesn't appear in the drawing that Copaken is planning to retain the two-story retail building at 1210 McGee on the NE corner of the block. We have got to start lobbying Copaken and the City to retain this building. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v727/FangKC/KansasCity/12thMcGeeBldg_zpsbxp1ix...

Alright here you go Fang. I just threw this together real quick. It's a little different than your plan, but shares similar traits. And when I mean I threw this together fast, I mean it lol. Especially the towers. I didn't think about the design of them at all, just tried not to make them boxes. htt...

If Gastinger Walker Harden is the architect of the entire redevelopment area, then it is screwed. It won't get any better than this. Everyone involved in this is just wrong. It's the wrong people. Demosthenes, you should be doing the sketch-ups for the Copaken PAC block instead of me. Ha, yea I was actually thinking of putting your plan into a 3 dimensional sketchup.
