Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
I'd rather see NBA but many studies have shown that an arena can be more successfully (money wise) with no primary professional tenant. I think the benefit from conventions and big time tournaments would be enough to make it worth while.

I agree a couple of those stores in the Sax garage are pretty weak but then a few others I've never heard of, and that's usually good in my book. Means I haven't walked by them in every mall in America. Guess was a good pickup even though they are in some high end malls. I might walk down there too....

Westport's heyday of kc's bar district is coming to an end?
I hope it always has some symbol of a bar district but I wouldn't mind at all if a new better district popped up. We could easily handle 2 districts...one (westport) being more rough with live music, Kelly's, etc. and the other (downtown) being more of the trendy place to go. KC would easily handle ...

Maybe the KC place will just take the top level.......I really think the Plaza needs a KC gift shop, so I have no problem with it unless it ruins the space for a bigger retailer that could really pull in more tourists.

I agree, that space was too big to bring in a t-shirt shop and could have been so much more. Would have been a good location for something more unique. I'll have to walk by there and see. I think you're talking about the visitor's center. Didn't really sell anything, just had pamphlets for other thi...

I don't like the location but I can't say I don't like a Kansas City store in the Plaza. I always thought there should be one.
Not in that area though.....no way a KC store can take up that entire square footage...did it say if anything else would go in the basement maybe?

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
If somebody hears ANYTHING, could you please post it on here? Time heard, station, summary of report???
This is now my "pet project" and I'd like to hear EVERYTHING about it. If they say new arena, tell us what you heard...
Thanks.

Club Cabaret
The huge gay bar, Cabaret, closed down last Sunday. The bar, which was located in the south plaza area next to Peanut, Planet sub, etc. This was an expected move as DST is buying up that area to fix it up for their Kirkwood Circle development. Cabaret is expected to relocate to another area, possibl...

Boardwalk is getting a Border's...drove by their sign today. Also Yankee Candle was listed now...so I guess those 2 are not going to Zona Rosa.

I'd take that 20 something story skyscraper in the rendering as the new home of HoK....that would be a pretty big landing....

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
only rendering I know of is the one for SoLo which just placed an arena in a location...don't think it was supposed to look like it at all. Maybe renderings would come out when they first announce the plans but I kind of doubt it. Here's that solo rendering of an arena: http://www.kcskyscrapers.com/...

With the rumors that arena plans will be announced soon, what league would you like the city to go after?

Re: OFFICIAL - Arena construction
I thought UMB always owned that land? He did say in Sunday's paper (I think it was this sunday) that if an arena was proposed to him right on his land he would listen... Could we have a deal where UMB gives the city the land for some sort of naming rights?? UMB arena? Do they have the clout for that...

yeah I heard Petro talk a little about that.....didn't hear those specifics though...just heard him ranting about needing a new arena (ground breaking Petro) bond issue? Taht would be the best method...no new taxes in this economic times....I thought the $35M being voted on was putting KC to the lim...

Kansas City's ITS system, KC Scout, launched the public website this week. http://www.kcscout.net Not much on it right now except camera, sign locations but it's interesting to poke around in. Says the entire phase I should be going by late next year. I personally don't like the site. I think it's h...
