Re: Parking
The auto show is probably mostly attended by a suburban/rural crowd that doesn't go downtown much and doesn't know where to find parking. Having a shuttle mentioned in their ads probably provides reassurance to those folks and makes it more likely that they will attend. Hopefully when they get to th...

Re: Phase 2 streetcar to UMKC
^I feel like some of the information the streetcar authority put out was very pro outside-running, especially this matrix, which was one of the first things put out about the differences: http://kcstreetcar.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/MainStExt_PublicMtg2_BoardsMaps-8.pdf And it seems like dedica...

Re: Westport Terrace at Manor Square
Pulse Development seems to have gone silent/dead. They were supposed to have already built the Artisan apartments east of the Plaza, but nothing appears to be happening with that. Mirabelle Phase II seems stalled as well. The site has been cleared but no further movement. I just checked out their w...

Collison said on twitter that that was a preliminary rendering, hopefully the final design will be better.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
City Scene article on Walnut:
https://cityscenekc.com/plans-underway- ... ty-market/
The design has has a lot of greenery, which is good. Is there a reason that this doesn't have raised crosswalks? Seems like that would be a good fit for this street.

Voting for an unknown just because the other options aren't perfect isn't usually the best strategy.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
If the current museum building and parking lot on Grand were getting replaced by a mixed use development, then I'm all for reopening Walnut. Better a car hole there than one on the streetcar route. However, if that's not happening, then I still see no reason to reopen the street. Normally allowing c...

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
And this would make it an even longer walk because you'd have to cross at a crosswalk. Rather than putting car lanes trough the center of the market, why not put some planters with some trees and plants there instead? Maybe add a cycletrack.

Re: Status and future of the River Market area??
Walnut is being reconfigured this year to pass directly through the Market, just like it used to do before the 50s. Exciting! Any chance something similar could be done with Main? Wait, wouldn't that basically de-pedestrianize Walnut? Not that it was ever completely pedestrianized, but I still don'...

Re: OPUS at Broadway Blvd and Westport Road
There was an event at the library last night with Bruce Katz, the author of "A New Localism" It was a good event overall, but some old man used the public comment period as an opportunity to rail against this project. I remember him saying "We all agreed it wouldn't happen, but its be...

Re: City Center Square for sale
I just realized that this rendering has scooters in it, some by the Lightwell sign on the ground and some near the other entrance near the intersection. Neat! You can see them better in one of the renderings in the CitySceneKC article about the project.

Re: High Speed Rail - someday?
Looks like California High Speed Rail is dead and the only line might be in the Central Valley. I don't think High Speed Rail is really necessary to connect So Cal to Nor Cal because there are so many flights from the 5 LA Area Airports to the 3 Bay Area Airports and the prices are all super cheap ...

Re: Sprint sale rumors again
The reasonable thing to do here would be to base approval off of whether Sprint can survive or not. Unfortunately, I don't think it can, so the government better be willing to bail Sprint out if it goes under. If they don't approve the deal, and Sprint goes under, we may be looking at a de facto duo...

Re: Amenities missing from downtown
One retail amenity that I believe downtown is missing would be a sporting goods store. We have plenty of gyms, but if someone wants to buy a pair of gym shorts or sweatpants, the only place to get them in the urban core would be at the Nike or Athleta store on the plaza or Run 816 in Westport. Those...

Re: Misc Crossroads News
There is a pretty big difference between one plus five stick constrution and mass timber. The first mass timber building in KC will likely be luxury, just because of the relative project risk and project costs, using new supply chains, etc.
