Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Nice, I didn't catch that. $3.5M seems a bit high. I seem to recall it was on the market 7 or 8 years ago for around $1.7M. I'm not sure if it sold to the current owners at that time. I doubt much work has been done to the building since then.

Re: Renovations of apartment buildings along Armour Blvd.

Gives hope for 39th/Main to E End of Westport efforts. Wish MAC would target that area too. The Santa Maria (115 W 39th St.) just went up for sale. Unfortunately, it is packaged with several other apartment buildings in the Northeast and East Side. Unless they would sell it separately, a developer ...

Re: NHL OR NBA, let the message board decide!!

I am skeptical of the quote about NBA to KC being "just a matter of time", but it could be a possibility. I think it would ultimately come down to the ownership group. If we had some deep-pocketed owners who really wanted NBA (or NHL) in KC, it could have happened already. If the Sporting ...

Re: OFFICIAL - ARTerra (21st and Wyandotte)

With those dusk renderings it is hard to get an accurate sense of the color. If you look at the bottom of this image where there is more lighting, you can see the brick looks tan. I also seem to remember seeing an alternate day time rendering that looked more tan.

Re: Muehlebach Hotel / KC Club Project

I thought Epoch bought the KC Club, but on the agenda it says the applicant is MFH Properties, LLC. I believe that was the previous owners, so I guess the sale didn't go through? Also, the garage and office are to be in the same structure at the NE corner of 13th and Wyandotte. More info here: http:...

Re: 3rd & Grand to be redeveloped as TOD

I'm not sure why we are debating the troll's post, but the term Oriental market is not racist. Referring to an Asian person as "an Oriental" is offensive, but but referring to goods and products from Asia as Oriental is not. One of the stores in the River Market (Huong Que) has Oriental Ma...

Re: Westport

I noticed this fencing being stored by the garage around the spot where the hotel portion of Westport Manor is to be built (also saw a construction dumpster). I haven't been to Westport on a weekend night since they started closing the closing the streets, so maybe this fencing is used for that. Or ...

The CPC docket with staff reports is available here: https://data.kcmo.org/Development-Review/City-Plan-Commission-Docket-with-Staff-Reports/yckm-q3pc The staff report on the Armour and Troost development begins on page 103. Here is probably the most important part of the report, discussing parking:...

There is now an Acadamie Lafayette Coming Soon sign at the old Derrick Thomas Academy and it looks like work is in full swing. I'm not sure if they are still on track for opening this fall, but I hope so.

The Armour and Troost project (as well as Armour and Cherry) are on the docket for the City Plan Commission tomorrow.

I have never been to a CPC meeting, but I'm considering checking this one out.

Re: The Midwest Is Booming—Just Not Where You Think

Not so good for urbanism, the article says that affordable single family housing is the key factor. The author suggests that is the factor, but is there any real evidence for that? If housing affordability is the only reason, then why aren't other cities in the Midwest such as Detroit and St Louis,...

Re: 50s/Main development

Good catch. I tried googling H2 Tru but didn't come up with anything. So Tru is Hilton's brand aimed and younger people. I guess Trill was taken. All of the images/renderings I am seeing of Tru hotels look fairly consistent (and not good). Here is an example of a 5 story one (although it is only 92 ...

Re: Troost developments

Fencing is up around the market building on SW corner of Armour and Troost (blocking the sidewalk and bus stop). I'm guessing this is coming down soon.

I don't know why they would tear this down before the other two buildings (besides wanting to rush it through before it can be stopped).

Re: 50s/Main development

There are some new docs in the KCMO Development tracker for a 5 story, 151 room hotel on about half of the large parking lot NW of 50th and Main. At least, I'm assuming it is a hotel. I don't see that explicitly stated in the docs and I don't see any indication of the flag. Docs: http://maps.kcmo.or...

Re: Electric Park Neighborhood (East Bottoms)

This looks cool, but I sometimes think development/investment gets spread too thin in KC. I think it would be wiser to focus on areas that already have some momentum than trying to start something basically from scratch in an area like this or at the riverfront. I guess a revitalization of the East ...

Re: 911 Linwood Redevelopment as Senior Housing

Sleder never purchased the building. He had problems with financing. (His renovation of the Narcissist is finally done, but that took forever with many stops and starts). There was more interest in the building and one potential buyer seemed to be getting serious, to the point of meeting with neighb...

1) Here are the developments in that area of Troost that I can think of off hand. Many of these are still in the proposal phase, so uncertainties remain: -24th and Troost - Beacon Hill hotel. Best Western was the last mentioned flag. -25th - Proposal for 350 units plus retail in two towers. Will be ...

Well Filling Station does call that their "Midtown" location. I would consider it Midtown, as well. I know that the city includes Union Hill in some of their expanded definitions of Greater Downtown, but I feel like that is pushing it. Longfellow definitely fits in with the rest of Midtown...
