Isn't there a coffee shop literally a block away? Soho or something? It's pretty good, but it just has bad hours.KCPowercat wrote:Strange. Should have done a coffee shop.

Re: Blogs about KC visits
To be honest, people are going to eat meat when they come to KC. It's just a fact everyone needs to get used to. They will also probably ridicule the small handful of excellent vegetarian and vegan choices. I don't think it's a bad thing to be *known* for a certain type of cuisine. It's much better ...

Re: Kansas City optimism
I think Kansas City is turning the corner. Seriously. It's not just the Google stuff. It's a lot of things. It's the people. It seems more like a place to dream than ever before. A lot has changed in the last 10 years (both physically and mentally). It's exciting because there is a sense of optimism...

Re: IKEA may be coming to Merriam Village
I think this is actually a pretty excellent location for IKEA. IMO, putting in an IKEA is a little bit like creating a new city dump or waste water treatment plant. It is a good amenity overall for the community, but not something your city should spend $$$ on. Throwing an IKEA up on the KS side wil...

Re: Blogs about KC visits
Perhaps contrary to popular belief in Kansas City, there is not genuine animosity towards KC from St. Louis beyond the cliche of the Chesterfield frat boy at Mizzou or Central (there are many cool people who live east of Chesterfield who don't represent that cliche). No we are much more insular tha...

Re: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema coming to KC
From all indications, this is a major win for P+L, downtown, and the loop. Specialty, boutique theaters are not something AMC knows how to do and other than design-- there wasn't anything amazing happening at AMC Mainstreet. Putting in something unique that's a destination is the right way to go. It...

This is looking pretty awesome. I hope they keep a simple look. It reminds me a bit of Blue Bottle Coffee in SF. It'll be the most inviting dining room in the Financial District.KC-wildcat wrote:

Re: miniBar
Didn't see a thread on this yet, so....Was walking past the old gusto spot (3810 Broadway) the other day and saw they were preparing it for a new concept called miniBar. Looks like they've had a few training runs already and will be opening this Firday. I was shuffling past and didn't really get a ...

Just saying I could see Flying Saucer leaving P+L. They'd be a nice fit in the area around 20th/Baltimore in the Xroads.

Re: P&L District: 13th & Walnut Site Proposal
Lucky Strike was an interesting place. I'm guessing they just chose not to renew their lease. Cordish's leases were based on high estimated traffic and having a sports team. I'd prefer the whole bowling lounge go away. I could see all the non-Cordish bars (flying saucer, GB, ?) leaving the area once...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
The Boot opens today. i really feel optimistic about the westport area. i think it has really turned a corner or two to become more of an eclectic midtown hub rather than the de facto 3am-barhopping/puking/stabtown for the entire metro region that it was for a long time. P+L saved Westport. It real...

Places I frequented in KC: Westport Cafe & Bar (amazing value for happy hour food in a city filled with amazing values) Grunauer (Amazing cocktails, great value, nice people. You sorta want to live inside this charming place) PeachWave (My favorite frozen yogurt in KC. The topping bar was meticu...

Re: Your most-frequented bars and restaurants.
we all have our "favorite" places in KC, the places that we think are the "best" in KC, and those we recommend to visitors. sometimes these categories overlap, but not always. there is another category - those places we most often find ourselves. they may (or may not) be "t...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
You've got to figure that the Halls building is going to come down eventually. And the tennis club is prime development property. (Build something, put a floor of indoor courts on the top, with more courts on the roof.) I hope that when that happens the Save the Plaza folks don't screw it up too ba...

Re: Aixois opening in Commerce Arcade
Whoa! This is AWESOME news. This place is quality. Good coffee too. Go Aixois!
Hopefully they kill it breakfast/lunch. I used to grab stuff at the Scooter's on Walnut and it seemed quite busy in the morning. Hopefully Aixois poacheds that crowd.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)
I think something finally seems to be clicking with the Plaza tenant mix. To be 100% honest-- it's eerily similar to the mix along 5th Avenue in the Flatiron NYC (Michael Kors, Cole Haan, H+M, etc.) It's nothing mind-blowing or adventurous, but pretty much a solid collection of accessible, bourgie t...
