Re: AMC coming to Empire, Midland to be restored...

I was pumped to see Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters...and then I've had the busiest work week ever. Oh well. I suppose I can just watch them on my VCR device. Saw Jurassic Park yesterday. Just as good as I remember it being. My one complaint is that any whispers or talking seem so much worse when th...

Re: Pickwick Plaza (10th and McGee) Put Up For Sale; Market

As a newcomer to Kansas City, the imaginary line between walkable downtown KC and slightly sketchy downtown KC is Grand Blvd (not sure why, but that's how I see it in my head). huh. because the school board, city hall, courts, federal courts and federal office building are all east of Grand. and JE...

Re: AMC coming to Empire, Midland to be restored...

Wish they'd put up signage as well...but all in all, I'm impressed with Alamo Drafthouse. This week they are having a "soft opening" before officially becoming a full-service Alamo Drafthouse. Maybe it's just me, but when I go to to the new theatre, I feel like Alamo actually cares about m...

Re: Pickwick Plaza (10th and McGee) Put Up For Sale; Market

Did anybody ever buy the Pickwick when it was put up for sale in 2007? As a newcomer to Kansas City, the imaginary line between walkable downtown KC and slightly sketchy downtown KC is Grand Blvd (not sure why, but that's how I see it in my head). The news this week of the Argyle Building is encoura...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Well, it didn't take Seasons 52 long to go back to something close to their original entrance design...they're remodeling and built this blocky extension off the front as their new "patio". Damn the Spanish look again! They've put in modern windows and now can't help themselves with more ...

Re: Lighting up KC's skyscrapers

One KC place has some LED color changing lights on top again tonight, but only on the south side of the building. The building is almost pitch black from the west side. Hard to tell it is even there aside from the blinking light on top. I noticed this last week as well, but didn't realize there wer...

Re: Fundraiser to recreate historic Folly Theatre sign

The sign is different from those posted in the historic photos above, but a truck carrying a large, new sign for the Folly Theater is sitting downtown, waiting to be installed!

Doesn't look like this parcel will be turned into a park. It is listed for sale on Copaken/Brooks website.

Would the YMCA Express in Quality Hill stay if a new downtown location was built?

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar

Great news. Living basically in the middle of the streetcar route line, I don't know if I could have justified paying to use the line when I could just walk to Crown Center or River Market. Now that's it is free, I will definitely be hopping on.

Re: Amenities missing from downtown

The KC area in general has very good biking/hiking trails. I recently talked to a man visiting KC from Memphis who had nothing but great things to say about Mill Creek Streamway Trail. He mentioned that Memphis just built their first trail, which was only 6 miles long (compared to Mill Creek's 15 m...

Re: THe downtown urban attraction?

Kansas City doesn't really have any iconic structures. The only structures that come even close are maybe the shuttlecocks and the fountains. I think it would be great if we could designate a couple consecutive blocks somewhere downtown (capped loop, east side, near 18th and vine, anywhere downtown ...

Re: renovate hanna, demolish lane... are we still doing this

Drove by the Lane building today...I don't know if they are planning on demolishing it, but with the fresh new traffic cones up all around the building, it certainly looks like they are getting ready to tear it down...

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

That is disappointing. I was dreaming of an REI anchoring P&L retail (how awesome would a large rock climbing wall on the roof of the building be downtown).... That same development already has a Backwoods and had another outdoor store that went out of business a few weeks ago.

Re: Brookfield Building hazardous?

There has been scaffolding up near the top of the building for a month or so. Did they make repairs, then get rid of the Barriers in time for the all star weekend? Makes the most sense to me.

Re: OFFICIAL: Power & Light District

Whether the P&L District was a good investment or bad investment, it certainly weighed heavily on my decision to move downtown instead of elsewhere in the city. Without all the positive movement going on downtown, I know there is no way my girlfriend would have agreed to settle in here. The same...
