Re: KC Commuter Rail
it's ironic that this thread has 'deviated' so far from commuter rail, given that there's so much to talk about concerning the commuter rail proposal that has just been put on the table. not so much. a huge amount of the discussions on the streetcar and commuter rail and bus have a common thought p...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
^Good news. I didn't see an opening date. That side of Westport started to close up when Corner Restaurant closed (and Osco). Hopefully with this reopening as well as the several restaurants popping up N of there and new apts coming in behind, the E Side of Westport will start to kick into gear. BT...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
say a visitor walks from the Hotel Philips and wants to go to the nearest clinic for medical care. Which way should they go? I, for one, am shocked and appalled that our tranist plans have not considered this common, common scenario. medicine is one of the most often used businesses in the wo...

Re: GSA considers big office complex downtown
AMC is moving out of their building aren't they? two big buildings a few blocks away would be perfect I've wonder about this as well. Ten Main Center and City Center Square are a 2 minute (or less) walk from one another. AMC takes up several floors in the building. Perhaps these two buildings are w...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
i will note that we will have the least complicate modern streetcar route of ANY american city, current or future. Pretty pleased about this, by the way. The route is intuitive, whether you're a resident or visitor. not necessarily as far as finding a destination for a visitor. say a visitor walks ...

Re: Council to relax density requirements for liquor license
there shouldn't be any rule that tells a business they could legitimately sell alcohol except there's too many that already do in the area. that should be true of any business. That sounds a lot like a density requirement. Unless you're just referring to supply and demand discouraging someone from ...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
When I rode the Blue Ridge Express many years ago we were glad the bus could deviate its route. A few times when I70 would be at a standstill the bus would go to 23rd St to go to downtown. In reading "It's Was a Wonderfull Ride" one thing that tied up the streetcars were auto accidents bl...

Re: KC Commuter Rail
the weaving around downtown, transit planners will tell you, is to quickly deposit the people commuting downtown from farther afield. of course, those people would probably walk the extra 2-4 blocks if necessary but you can't guarantee that. Bah, unnecessary deviations. Transit riders hate deviatio...

Re: Council to relax density requirements for liquor license
http://www.kcconfidential.com/2012/11/29/hearne-new-liquor-licenses-in-works-for-westport-waldo/ Sources say the Kansas City Council appears poised to relax the city’s density requirements which in Westport would allow the party zone to add new liquor licenses for bars and taverns. Before a bar, re...

I find it curious that this is PDG, who are now doing more infill projects in the city. It seems to me you have to bet on one horse or the other. I just don't see how in the long-run 1,000,000 sq ft of retail at 159th Street can coexist with a repopulated and prosperous urban core.

Re: Johnson County Gateway
Traveled that stretch of highway last week at 3:30 in the afternoon. Seemed to be busier than I-70 going into or leaving downtown during rush hour. Probably. And here's a newsflash, this expansion/improvement won't make it any less busy. It will lessen the congestion for a few years, and then weste...
