I imagine Troost is one of those streets where you just need that tipping point of one place that is noticeably more upscale than what's there today.
Imagine if something like a Panera decided to build on Troost near Hospital Hill what that would mean psychologically to people.

Re: Proposed apartment for 14th and Grand - Two Light
Sometimes a balcony is just a balcony. Do you think One Light balconies won't be able to hear the sound of city noise and the freeway on the upper levels, there's nothing in the way right now

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light
It looks considerably shorter than H&R Block. I took some pics today, will post when I have time to process all of them. building perspective is hugely relational. If you go down the east side of the loop it looks slightly taller already. You have to get up high to get a fair assessment of the ...

On one side of the city the gateway is a freeway interchange, on another it's a shopping center.

Re: Capping the Loop
If I were picking, i would do Walnut next. It's getting the next tower right at it so there's going to be hundreds of new residents along it within the next few years. Best to improve that experience so it's not a barrier to people visiting the crossroads from downtown. The train is great, but it do...

Re: Smart City Project
Details are still rather scant, but the city is getting better than three dollars from Cisco and its partners for each public dollar invested, so there's that. Cisco needs somewhere on the continent to show off the system. It's doubtless a demo/sandbox for them just as much as providing the system ...

I bet people that have the money to afford an online star sub is more likely to support the train.
Do a real survey calling people and I wonder what the response would be.

Really? Based on all of their virtual drawings it looked like it was going to be shorter than the HR block building? Coming from east 70 I'm not sure you will be able to see it over the red brick building around 1300 cherry I looked at the unit virtual scenes well before they were leased. The SW co...

Re: KCMO Downtown Streetcar
You can tell there's a lot of interest in the streetcar. A few hundred people showed up for the first stop celebration. Let's put that a different way... That many people showed up a celebration of "you get to wait more" If you didn't go and haven't looked for photos, there's a bunch on Tw...

Re: Whole Foods mixed-use project @ 51/Oak
If there is anywhere I would like to see any kind of "complexity" (which is an idea a hate, hate, hate in transit) it would be run the line west on Westport Road or 39th street over to Broadway/JC Nichols then into the Plaza at Nichols/47th instead of on Main. The original Dodson streetca...

I increasingly think that August was an ENORMOUS set-back for this city, one that it will not likely recover from in the next 25 years. August was an enormous setback for the* east side*. West of Troost is interested in spending money and getting the rewards. Your 25 year idea has one huge thing ha...

I don't think most people will notice the poles. How often do people notice the street light poles or power poles today? They're just a part of a place.loftguy wrote:I have to joke, but I'm betting the finished product in Crossroads is going to be really pleasing austere tech sculpture.

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L
Despite being a hugely underwhelming development, these new buildings are going to be a big improvement over the surface lot that's been there for approximately forever. Building out a street wall for another block heading west is going to make the heart of the neighborhood feel that much more live...

The poles are taller than I expected. Not a bad thing, just a comment. They're way taller than I expected. They don't look bad, just tall. Will these cantenary poles be a black finish through out the length of the line? Works well with the River Market historic theme pedestrian lighting. They alrea...

Re: Proposed apartment for 14th and Grand - Two Light
Did you mean 15 stories? One Light is ~25 stories, approx. 500 people. it sits on approx. 1/8 of a block so 500 * 8 = 4000 people in the same height for a whole block 150 / 25 = 6x higher than the current height 4000 * 6 = 24,000 so 150 stories for 15,000 people is realistic. he prefers 400-600 5-s...

personally I would like to avoid the issue entirely and add a little complexity to the line now that the east side expense seems unlikely turn east, go down to the Nelson at Cleaver and Rockhill, down to Cherry and over to Brookside Blvd at 52nd the line could directly serve the heart of UMKC this w...
