Re: New Convention Hotel

But I guess if you add it up. 23 floors x the amount of Windows across x 2 for a room on each side of the building. It does equal around 800 rooms... So perhaps I'm wrong. This does seem to be a 23 story hotel. So are you suggesting that 1 window horizontally = one room? It must because it's an odd...

Re: New Convention Hotel

I agree with you, pash. I looked at a photo from Liberty Memorial and even though the Performing Arts Center is 70ish feet tall, from that southern perspective, it looks like it is about equal in height to the 16th or 17th floor of the KCP&L building, meaning that the new hotel's location alone ...

Re: New Convention Hotel

Reading KC Star comments is so infuriating. Why do I keep doing it? What a buzzkill.

Re: Proposed apartment for 13th and Walnut - One Light

From HWY 71, the tower at its final height (unless "topping it out" adds any significant height) appears to stand about two stories taller than H&R Block. It really seems to add a nice sense of density visually looking NW from 71. Without it there, the skyline looked pretty one dimensi...

Rumor for Lucky Strike Space

I heard from a reliable source that one of the co-owners of Cleaver & Cork (not Alex Pope, but apparently his partner?) is in the process of working out details to open a soccer-themed restaurant/bar in the former Lucky Strike space. The details were a little muddy, but it sounds like it would b...

Re: IKEA may be coming to Merriam Village

Before we moved to Waldo we lived in Merriam. I think this will be an enormous boost to the area. Although I would have been excited if IKEA would have chosen somewhere in KC proper, the Merriam location is about the best I could have hoped for since most of their locations (by far) are suburban. At...

Re: Bakery/restaurant redevelopment for midtown Katz

Maybe there isn't any rational reason not to trust them. I just have had a bad feeling about them ever since the proposal to tear down the buildings. I've been especially concerned ever since I learned they bought the Katz building, though their plans for it have been better than I expected. Also, ...

Re: Bakery/restaurant redevelopment for midtown Katz

That's really, really dumb if so, but I wouldn't be too surprised. Something might have interfered with their plans last year, but I figure they will keep trying. I do not trust that church one bit. We must always keep an eye on the properties they own, cause I'm pretty sure they don't give a damn ...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

HenHouse decision to open their first KCMO location south of the river in this area reflects that. ( Hen House start was at the location where Big Lots is right now. That building was the new building for Hen House and was built behind the original location. There was another Hen House location at ...

Re: Wonderful Waldo

I agree with chrizow... the makeup of Waldo is slowly changing and HenHouse decision to open their first KCMO location south of the river in this area reflects that. As a Waldo resident, even though I love the 75th & Wornall corridor (at least the north half of it), I think that the south half h...

I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else, so sorry if this is a re-post. Orange leaf opened up a week or two ago on Wornall across from QuickTrip/Sutherlands and seems to be doing well so far.

Re: Plaza move-ins (ongoing)

Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if part of the plaza was converted to pedestrian space like they've done with Times Square in NYC. What if they closed down the east-west bound streets between the Cinemark and Halls and made it into walkable hang-out space that could be like the "living...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

WSPanic, you know what I mean. Of course people aren't literally afraid of the church (or at least I hope not). I'm just saying that there seems to be a lot of distrust on this board that the church is going to tear down everything it can get its hands on for parking. I'm simply pointing out that th...

Re: Westport's fate post-P&L

The guy who owns Oddly Correct is a great guy. He's a good example of the type of people that go to Redeemer Fellowship (the church that everyone on here seems to be so scared about). His family is one many many families who live in the surrounding areas. The idea that Redeemer people are suburbanit...

Re: Westport demolition

Here's the timeline of events I'm seeing here: • Redeemer sends out lease non-renewal letters • Angry tenant reaches out to Fox 4 (most sensationalistic station in the metro -- by far. I've seen this written dozens of times on this forum) • Fox 4 grabs the story and runs a slanted and ill-prepared p...

Re: Westport demolition

After emailing with one of the pastors of the church about some of the feedback from the forum, he directed me to this statement: ----------------------------------------- January 27, 2011, Kansas City, Mo In reference to the January 26, 2011, Fox 4 news report titled “Church Forcing Some Westport B...

Re: Westport demolition

There is no one else in that congregation that could start another church in another location?! There seem to be plenty of old buildings in the city where this church could be split in two and not tax one specific location.   Good question. The church is actively assisting in other church plans thr...

Re: Westport demolition

Cheffreygo, that's a thin and destructive line you are dancing on.   One responsibility does not override the other. "We need to provide them parking in order to allow them into the kingdom of heaven." I'm trying to be measured here, but your comment, and those of Pastor Cawley have flipp...
