The only IKEA store I have seen is at the Woofield Mall, outside Chicago. Its big box look, and voluminous parking lot leads me to believe that IKEA builds stores more on the carfarm-Walmart model than an efficient urban one.

If they come to the area, my guess is that it'll be to Johnson County.

Price Chopper is a ways from Midtown. Midtown and downtown suffer from a dramatic lack of grocery stores, as we all know, and we have all gotten to the point that we are actually accustomed to driving ten miles to get groceries. Doesn't anyone else think that that's ridiculous?

Upon a reconfirmation, I have found that I was wrong. At 630 feet, 801 Grand in Des Moines is two feet shorter than 1 Kansas City Place.

On the contrary, I would say that Des Moines has a shockingly urban downtown, and and largely suburban remainder of the city.
