Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
Yeah for the excellent pictures. I am loving it more. I like the way light streaming though clear glass appears to make sections of the opaque glass glow (especially noticeable in Long's third picture of his first posting and Higlander's second photo - look at the lens on the left of the photo)....

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
I'm sorry. I am not being very clear. In the Steven Holl aerial, the large expanses will be covered with grass and scuplture and just south of the northernmost "lense" a shallow relecting pool. The retaining walls, mainly facing Rockhill Road, are the board formed. walls I was referring...

The concrete retaining walls will not be covered. They were "board-formed" with strips of wood, which will create a pattern. The concrete roofs, which gently slope, will be covered. I am pretty sure that at least one Moore scuplture will sit on top of the galleries.

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
Loved the design, got nervous about the look of the glass, then felt better. I was there in September on a super-sunny day and I liked the glass. It shined and shimmered and looked pretty neat. I think the "shed" look may be a concern on cloudy days, but even this may be ameliorated by ...

Re: New Independence Best Buy
There is a Best Buy in the 2600 block of N. Clark in Chicago. Dense neighborhood, the building is right at the sidwalk. Successful entries at the N and S corners, but mid-block is kind of dead. our (or five) levels of relatively expensive condo's on top of the building. All part of a larger deve...

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
There was an article in the Star about this. The N-A people gave a tour to big-wigs recently. In addition to solid constructionl barriers coming down, Kirkwood Hall is open again, the exterior glass wall installation will be complete mid-late August, the Ford Learning Center will be dedicated in S...

Re: Star tearing down buildings for parking lots
What I find fascinating in this discussion is the nobody has referenced the article which the Star ran about how surface lots have destroyed the urban fabric of downtown. I can't remember when they published this article, but it had terrific graphics showing the same three blocks in different eras,...

Re: Nelson-Atkins Expansion (YES..white glass is the end result)
Hi - I am a former Kansas Citian who has been lurking on this site for some time. I am very excited about the addition to the Nelson-Atkins. Had some doubts for a short time about the glass, but feeling much better, especially after I went to the new , much improved Nelson addition site with MANY ...
