Re: Possible future multi-use development

Thank you for the suggestion but the building in just not a good fit. Not a good fit financially, size, location? Why so many different ideas for one building? Bar,restaurant, clothing store, apartments,office... Hard to do more than a few things we'll, unless you are planning to recruit existing bu...

Re: Broadway Jimmy John's

They should have made Jimmy Johns construct at least a 3 story building that aesthetically fits into the neighborhood, even if the upper floors were only used for Jimmy John’s offices or storage. By allowing that little one story “box like” drive thru the city officials have inadvertently started do...

Re: Possible future multi-use development

How about the Berlau Paper building? Just went in the market. Thank you for the suggestion but the building in just not a good fit. A side note, not sure about others but to me this Berlau Paper building kind of has a Texas School Book Depository feel to it with the arched windows on the upper floo...

Re: Union Station

This is how you do it right. http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_26139214/denvers-renovated-union-station-has-been-30-year we could actually do this, if we were willing to spend a billion dollars. you're absolutely correct, and it seems the tax payers are just tired of the empty promises and disa...

Re: Union Station

This is how you do it right. http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_26139214/denvers-renovated-union-station-has-been-30-year I totally agree and it's what I was already saying, but here's a quote from the article you linked. "Public projects, like arenas, aren't enough to drive the economy, bu...

Re: Union Station

I would make the argument that Kansas City is no longer in decline. The City is regularly getting media exposure on many rankings and lists--including up and coming downtowns. My apologies, as my comment regarding the decline of KCMO was more directed at the overall decline in KCMO,not specifically...

Re: Possible future multi-use development

Fang, Thank you for the informative post. I really am struggling to decide what the best option is for my project. Let me just share a few thoughts I have. Restoring an older building has its pros and cons and while I’m sure many here already understand these I’ll go ahead and list some of them that...

Re: Crown Center: urban disaster, shining star, or in-betwee

there are pros and cons to both having windows and not having windows. Security being the best motivation for a windowless building. I will even predict with the growing number of the flash mobs that some retail businesses will install special entrance doors like at banks that can automatically lock...

Possible future multi-use development

I was born in KCMO and as I age I have this “soulful tugging’ or “inner desire” to one day return to my roots so when the time comes that I pass away I can be buried in my home soil. Call it nostalgia or just old age but it is what it is. I registered here at KCRag as part of my ongoing research int...

Re: Union Station

Consequently, with reference to the original post - I don't think we have enough of a system to have a "hub" and it's not likely to be in place anytime soon (it's decades away) Exactly but this is the time to plan such transportation needs and get something in the works to help bring grow...

Re: Union Station

Union Station is a success story as it is. Someday, it may return to be a transportation hub but the sad truth is that KC doesn't have the volume of rail travel or urban mass transport on fixed rail lines (that volume is currently zero) that would support a large hub and it will not even be close f...

Re: Building demolition for parking

Downtown Kansas City MO. – The Parking lot capital of the USA? I’m sure like it does with many others here; it strikes me sad to see current areal images of Downtown Kansas City MO (especially in the crossroads district just north of Union Station). It just leads me to think of all the lost structur...

Re: Union Station

it's not perfect but at least it wasn't torn down like was the plan at one point. Yes so true, and regardless of our different opinions on what we individually might feel is "best" for Union Station, I think we can all agree that everyone only wants to see Union Station succeed. I am glad...

Re: Union Station

Nothing is more disingenuous and disrespectful to Kansas City, its people, and its history more than trying to redesign Union Station into something it never was, such as a cheesy Science Center or Natural History Museum. we should still have stables inside downtown if this is the defining reason t...

Re: Union Station

In every article or post regarding Union Station the one key factor which is always cited as missing is “numbers” or “foot traffic” which always refer to people Also “The People” seem to have made it clear that Union Station history (meaning the rail history of Kansas City) should somehow be highlig...
