Re: Study confirms downtown renaissance and value to KC budget
There is also the argument to be made regarding what would have happened if nothing had been done downtown--if it would have been allowed to continue rotting. What probably would have happened had the investment not been made in renovating old buildings into housing; the new public library, P&L,...

Re: 900 Baltimore Ave.
I would hate to see the Cosby Hotel demolished. I think it's integral to the historic streetscape along Baltimore and E. 9th, which has some of the loveliest old buildings left downtown. In preservationist parlance, the Cosby is an important contributing building. I wish Shirley Helzberg would buy ...

Re: Urban Gardening and Landscaping
Re: Rabbits Is a fence the only effective way to keep them out? Is that effective? It doesn't have to be a tall fence. You can buy small, chicken-wire fencing that stands about 36 inches tall and just wrap it around the garden and stake it in the ground with sturdy stakes. Bury about six inches of ...

A study by the Downtown Council validates downtown's renaissance has benefitted the City.

It's a manufacturing plant to build non-fossil fuel generators. It's great for Odessa, but I wish this plant could have landed in the Sheffeld industrial district of KCMO.

The former Cosby Hotel, on the SW corner of 9th and Baltimore, is being sold by Rick Powell. The building was constructed in 1881.

Trozzolo to renovate 807 Wyandotte as new HQ
Trozzolo Communications will renovate and move into the vacant building at 807 Wyandotte.
I'm glad to see this finally happening. That building has sat empty for much too long.

Re: Helping Kansas City's homeless
Estimates of mentally-ill and substance abusers among homeless run anywhere from 40-50 percent of that population. They are a chronic homeless population because they often can't hold jobs. It's not always that they don't want to work either; it's problematic because employers don't want to deal wit...

Re: School District Woes
I don't see that the KSPCD has any choice, but to dramatically downsize. They still have the infastructure to serve a student population that is twice the size, or more, than the 18,000 students that remain there. The administration is twice the size as needed, when compared to other urban school d...

Re: Vote to repeal KC earnings tax?
One has to keep in mind that some/many of the people out with petitions are being paid to do it, and thus, may not know, or could care less what the petition is about.

Re: Helping Kansas City's homeless
In times like these, it's hard to know what to do. It seems to me that churches need to do more by simply opening their doors so the homeless can at least come in and get warm. So many churches sit empty except on Sundays. We also have so many buildings sitting empty that could be used as emergenc...

Re: What Will Save the Suburbs?
When I bought my house a year ago, I recall the realtor kept wanting to show me houses that were too big for me. I live alone, so I don't need a three or four bedroom house. I had to keep reminding him that I wanted a smaller house, and he had to work harder to find me one. Like Highlander, I had fu...

Re: Changing City Policy on Sprawl?
Yes, we need to increase the population, but within the existing borders, and where infastructure is already in place. Not in a place where there is no one living now. If this is his motiovation, Funk is playing the game of adding population now, and leaving the infastructure to be built and paid fo...

Re: Help needed: Annexation history of KC
It's going to be difficult. I don't think there's anything online to make it easy. I would suggest going to the Missouri Valley Room, and see if they have any folder on annexation.
